I don't even have to turn around to see who just trespassed into my home, because honestly his voice is forever brunt into my brain. But by the way I am feeling right now I would have rather preferred to stumble upon a burglar.
"I really am not in the mood for your questions. I had the worst day possible! And you being here is just making it worst. So please go away. You know where the door is." with that said I take out my precious ice cream and make my way towards the living room so I can start crying and hating myself, but hey at least I will do all the above in a comfortable sofa while watching Mean Girls.
"I asked you a question Rose."
Why God, why?
Why doesn't he just give up and let me live my life in peace? I mean I know I wasn't always good and stuff but this punishment is just too much.
"Are you ignoring me?" he asks with a hint of amusement in his voice.
Yes I am, since you ignored me also.
He comes near me and sits on the sofa while I still ignore him and try to focus on the movie. He does nothing for a few moments, just stares at me as if he is over-analyzing every single movement of my body. What is the thing with men and starring, really?
In a flash of a moment before I can react in any way he reaches his hand in my lap and takes away my ice cream.
That really pisses me of.
"What is your problem?" I face him and I can feel my anger growing.
"You, you are my problem." he answers simply with a small smile on his stupidly handsome face.
"What is that even supposed to mean?"
"Well it is clear as day that you aren't really angry at me. I mean you don't usually get this angry when I show up. So what is it?"
"Nothing. Everything is just peachy!" I turn around and refuse to look at him anymore. I had a feeling that if I looked a second more into his eyes, I would be fooled by the false concern that I see in them and just give up. I couldn't let him have so much power over me.
"Look I know you had a date with John Anderson, so tell me did he do something? Did he say something?"
What?
"How would you.., you know never mind. I don't want to know how messed up you really are. And for your information it wasn't a date."
"It wasn't ?" he asks with a smile.
"Nope. It was a meeting for an interview, which by the way since you wanted to know, I totally blew. And now you won't have to worry so much about me anymore since I will get fired."
"You will not get fired, trust me. Now tell me what happened. It will help you feel better."
"I don't know. That is the problem! One minute we were chatting and all was well and then when I start asking him some questions he just shuts down and leaves telling me that he doesn't have time to waste."
We both remain silent for. I hate to admit it but I am already feeling a little better. But he can't know that, he can't know that he actually was right!
"You know Rose, John has a lot of demons like everyone else. Maybe you touched something inside him with a question and that made him defensive."
"You know him?"
I mean it is obvious that they know each other since they are part of the same circle of "to die for bachelors". They navigate in the same groups and are surrounded by the same people. It was impossible, I imagine, to never cross paths.
But the way he said those words makes me think that it is more to the story. Something he is trying to hide.
"Me and John, we are a long story. I don't like talking about it, maybe just as much as you hate talking about your childhood." he answers and this time he hides his eyes from me with the intent of not letting me see the emotions that are drowning in them. And I guess he is right, some things are so painful that we refuse to talk about them, in the hopes that maybe this way we can pretend for a limited amount of time that they don't exist.
"So, he say after a moment of complete silence, what are we watching?"
"We?"
"Yes, we. I came all this way to talk to you, the least you can do is let me watch the movie."
"You could have called."
"You wouldn't have answered"
"True that. Mean girls."
He gives me back my ice cream, which by now has melted and transformed in a sauce. I look at it with diastase and pucker my lips. Oh poor chocolate heaven, what has happened to you? And it was the last one since I didn't had the time to go shopping yet.
"Here take this" Dimitryi says and hands another ice cream box.
"What is this?"
"Ice cream." he answer as if he is talking with a 4 years old who has never seen ice cream in their life.
"Okay and..."
"Last time I was here I noticed your fridge was empty so before I came here I bought a few things so I am sure you will not starve. And of course knowing about your sweet tooth I made sure to bring ice cream too. And by the way we are going to have a long talk on the importance of eating and groceries shopping."
He just said all that as if his gesture meant little to nothing, but I don't think he can even imagine how much it means to me.
"Don't look at me like that. It was nothing and don't even think about not accepting or commenting some sarcastic bullshit about how you can handle it, okay?"
"No, I was thinking how good it is to have someone that cares for you, even in a little way. So thank you, really!"
He smiles and it makes me all warm inside. There is something about this man.
"No problem. Now start the movie."
I press play but I can't concentrate at the TV. Too much is going on in my head. I look at him again, for a brief moment only and then I turn back to the movie while a small smile forms on my lips.
Maybe having him in my life isn't that bad.
