I'm posting this while at work. You're welcome :)
Scott's been sleeping on the couch for the last 4 days. It wasn't good for him since he needed his leg to heal but he insisted, he couldn't bare to be in the room that he and Mitch shared.
So Kirstie stayed in the bedroom, offered to by Scott himself. Jeremy stayed for two days to help out, Avi and Kevin have been arranging PTX meetings, breaking the news to the crew and discussing what will happen next. They were keeping Kirstie informed of course, and Kirstie would pass the messages onto Scott.
Not like he was taking in any of the information he was told, all that ran his mind was Mitch. No matter how hard he tried to think of something else, Mitch was always peeping through in the corner of his mind.
"Scott?"
He snapped out of his thoughts and gazed up at Kirstie who had a mug in her hands holding it out to him. He hesitantly took it and whispered a quick 'thanks' before taking a sip.
"What's the news this time?" He asked, looking down at his mug not daring to give her eye contact.
"How'd you-" He cut her off before she could even finish.
"You know not to talk to me unless you have news from the others so I take it that's why your here. So I ask again, what is it this time?" His voice was strict and cold, it had gotten like that from the day Kirstie started staying over. Showing no emotion. She didn't want to intrude and ask him questions, she thought it'd be best to let him go through this phase until he was able to let people back in again. It was an on and off thing.
"Um, Mike and Nel have arranged a funeral to happen this Thursday."
Scott snapped his head up in panic and shock. That was in five days...
"W-why so soon?! I'm not ready. They have to wait a bit longer. I'm not ready to say goodbye..." His voice slightly cracked from that last sentence making Kirstie's heart shatter a little more than it already had.
"They didn't want his body to stay in the morgue any longer, they're ready to give him the service he deserves and plus they think the sooner it's done the easier it is for people to move on."
Scott bowed his head sighing in defeat, he couldn't be selfish and ask them to postpone, it wouldn't be fair on Mike and Nel and the rest of his family.
"I-I have to...oh god it's so soon! I haven't even thought about what I'm going to say!"
"Scott, it's alright. You have time. You-"
"No, no I don't. I don't-I can't do this right now." And with that he grabbed his crutches and limped his way out of the room. Kirstie tried to follow him in case he lost his balance but he sensed her instantly and stopped her. "Don't. Just don't."
She retracted her hand immediately away from him and took a step back letting him walk away.
Just let him be, he'll come around. He'll be okay...
Her own thoughts didn't really convince herself but it will have to do for now.
Meanwhile in Scott's room...Scott's room...he still can't process it being his room now, just him. He wanted to pace around the room trying to find some space in his broken mind to think but instead he laid on his king size bed, staring up at the pale white ceiling.
Five days...
He has five days to come up with his eulogy, five days to pull himself together, five days until he watches them lower his soulmate in the ground.
He simply couldn't do this. In just five days, reality will set in and everyone will move on. Mitch will lie there in the ground getting visits every now and then until he becomes forgotten, but Scott wouldn't. He could never forget the best fifteen years of his life spent with the only one he truly loved.
In just five days he will be forever lost and alone....and he...wasn't ready.
