Sam.

The car reeks of hairspray and perfume as I lay in the back of the strangers' car, head against the leather seats, fingers clutching the sides as I fight to stay Sam.

Except, this girl is not a stranger.

The girl in the passenger seat's smell clouds all other senses, almost subduing the smell of hair products entirely. I'm getting drunk off it. I've never been so close before.

She's in the same vehicle as me. Breathing the same air. And here I am, in the backseat of her friend's car, clinging desperately onto my humanity that is slipping through my fingers like sand.

She recognizes me. She has to.

The way her eyes stared into my own, recognition crossing her face, it's undeniable. But whather she believes it or made the connection or not is debatable. I mean, how many sane people would believe that one of the wolves that was involved in tearing her off her swing was just moments ago speaking words, a human? I shudder at the memory.

My Girl's friend--Isabel-- makes a sharp right hand turn that is much too abrupt and nauseating to be legal. I swallow the bile that rises in my throat, squeezing my eyes closed. I'm slipping away.

You are Sam Roth. Sam Roth, a human. You live in Mercy Falls, Minnesota, and you are on your way to your girl's house.

The thought makes my heart flutter, an insanely human feature that makes me feel better for a moment. Maybe I can do this.

Sam Roth. A human. Living in Mercy Falls. Going to your summer girl's house.

Sam Roth. Mercy Falls. Summer Girl.

Sam. Summer Girl.

Sam.
