Chapter 0.3 - Win it all!

Kongpope's POV

'We need someone who can stand up to the seniors.'

'That's Kong!'

'No way. I'm not a good fit for the role.'

'It has to be Kong.'

Aim was giving me his puppy eye look. 'Come on Kong! You are the only one.'

I spoke seriously because I hoped they would not think I was abandoning them or something.

'Aim, if I'm always the one who stands up for everyone, then what happens when I'm not there? I won't always be here to help everyone fight their battles.'

'Kong...I'm sorry.'

'Why?' I was puzzled by Aim's apology.

'I didn't realize how hard it must be for you to always be standing in front of us, shielding us and trying to help us.'

That's when P'Minnie walked into the freshmen meeting earning smiles and awkward stares from the whole group.

'Kongpope, come on. It's time for the photo shoot. Let's go.'

'Sorry guys, I have to go. Pick someone else. I'm sure they'll do better than me.'

I put my hand on Aim's shoulder trying to assure him that I was fine and he didn't need to apologize.

I left them and silently thanked P'Minnie for the perfectly timed entrance. I knew that if I became the freshmen's leader, P'Arthit will not approve. He would accuse me of being the hero again.

Why did I want his approval? I was puzzled over that. I didn't even see him at the earlier freshmen meeting. P'Knott led the meeting instead.

Praepailin was already getting her photos taken. She waved at me when I got there. I took a seat to wait my turn. P'Minnie sat with me and was filling out some forms.

'P'Minnie, can I get you to sign my booklet?'

'Of course dear! Give it here.'

'Umm...can I ask you a question?'

P'Minnie looked up at me.

'Why wasn't P'Arthit at the freshmen gathering?'

'Oh....I shouldn't talk about these things.'

'P'Minnie, I promise I won't tell anyone.'

'Well, the teachers found out about the freshman who fainted. So, he was asked to leave the hazing team.'

After I got my photos done, I saw Aim had texted me saying that Tew got picked as the representative. Good choice I thought relieved they didn't ask me again.

That Evening

I went to the nearby cafeteria to grab some dinner. I saw him. Sitting there, in shorts and t-shirt reading the newspaper,  looking nothing like the head hazer I have been seeing at uni. He seemed relaxed and the word that came into my head was 'Adorable.' Not the word I usually used to describe other guys but that word seemed the most appropriate.

'May I sit here? The other tables are full.'

'Sure.'

'Thank you P'Arthit.'

He dropped the paper and that's when he saw who it was.

'Who told you can sit here?'

'You just did. Plus the other tables are full.'
