'What do we have now?' Leon asked.

They were sitting around a table in the dining room of the Puzzle Box with their dinner spread out around them. Things had been hectic the past few days, and as much as he wished he could put regular business on hold, he knew he couldn't let work grind to a halt for his wife.

'Carlos has his mother living with him,' Dom reported. 'It's a secured compound. Getting at her will be difficult.'

'And Luciana?' he mumbled. The only thought in his mind as he chewed on the chicken was that Hana made better chicken.

'Same apartment as in the past, no additional security,' he went on. 'Her daughters are in school right now.'

Exhaustion lined his men's faces. They had been working through the night, sifting through the piles of information on Mickey's cluttered desk, going on scouting missions, and developing various plans to secure key locations and to get at their targets.

They were strained, and they needed a break soon.

'Good,' he muttered as he stabbed aimlessly at the mash on his plate. His dinner had long gone cold. 'I'll tackle Carlos' mother. I want you to have an eye on Keiji's sisters and mother.'

'And how do you plan to do that?' Dom demanded in astonishment.

'Carlos can't be home all the time, can he? I'll just pay her a normal visit,' Leon proposed.

The men at the table glanced among themselves. His suggestion hadn't be made on a whim, as sudden as it had come.

'You're serious about that?' Dom asked with a frown. 'How will it help?'

'It's dangerous,' Fedor put in. 'We're in high tension right now!'

Leon cast them a smile.

'I'm simply destroying what he has with the last person on earth who still trusts him.'

His explanation had them letting out heavy sighs. Dom stared sullenly at his plate with his mouth pursed.

'You know we can't guarantee your safety in there?'

'I know. But I have to try.'

As he returned to his cold food, Dom directed his gaze at Val, silently pleading for his input. The repercussions would be grave were anything to happen to him within Carlos' house. Leon knew it too, but it was a risk he had to take. For all of Carlos' elusiveness, there was no choice but for them to strike at where it mattered most.

Getting himself a meeting with Carlos' mother, he thought, it would be risky. But it could provide them with a chance. And right now, a chance was something they did not yet have with the silence coming from Keiji and Carlos.

'We have to try everything,' Val murmured.

Dom turned back to his plate with a huff.

'Fine,' he agreed unhappily. 'What do we do now?

Leon shot him a lopsided smile.

'We get some ice cream.'

'Sabine.'

'You!' she exclaimed, her nostrils flared.

The girl turned on him, and so did the heads of other customers. Asier hurriedly shooed them into the kitchen before they could create another buzz in their shop again. Sabine's pre-labour had caused such an excitement on social media that their shop had seen a three-fold increase in customers. Leon had had to push past groups of giggling schoolgirls before he reached the cashier.
