I finally got away. After eighteen years of pure torture, taunting, and terrifying events, I finally got away. My entire family left behind, my past completely ditched in the dust. I could finally start over, get to start from scratch and just start over again.

I'm (y/n). I ran away from my godparents and their children as soon as I turned eighteen. Someone was desperate to sell their adorable, fully furnished house for dirt cheap in a little town called Haddonfield over in Illinois. Since I had lived all the way over on the very top left corner of Oregon, I felt like I was a safe distance away. I couldn't handle being in that house for any longer.

I was so excited for my new beginning. I was driving my truck the entire way to my new home, only packing my clothes and other necessities. I was basically running off with what I could shove in my car within half an hour, which was basically everything. I didn't have much, so leaving in a hurry was easy.

Hours upon hours of driving finally came to an end as I reached my new house. It was so cute and cozy, I don't know why they would want to sell it for so cheap. I grinned and ran up to it, unlocking the front door before quickly carrying everything inside. It was all so clean and neat, not a speck of dust on anything. I was happy that I had very little to unpack.

I walked out to my car to properly park it when I saw a white-masked face in the window of the house across from mine. I rubbed my eyes a bit, but I just assumed it was the glaring sun reflecting off the glass. It was a beautiful day, do I wouldn't doubt the rays were flashing against the clear surface. Weird. The house across from me was supposed to be abandoned...

I had already gotten logged into my online college class that I only had to physically attend the university once a month for teacher check-ins, so I would have a lot of time on my hands. I was going to start work the week after I started this online college, so I'd have time to settle in and adjust.

The online college was part of a Hartford program. You could say I was kinda smart. The classes were hard, but I was used to doing other people's homework, so I'm used to the big work load. I shuddered as I remember the people who had forced me to. It was either that or get the hell beat out of me. Now, in strong, and can handle myself, but I can't fight multiple hockey and football players at once.

I shook the thoughts away, changing into comfortable clothes and sitting on my couch. There was about a week before Halloween, but the cable network already piled the TV channels with old horror movies and slasher biographies.

I rolled my eyes and put in my own movie, sighing happily at my new life and leaning back. That's when I saw the masked man outside my window. I gasped sharply and jumped back, falling off the couch. I looked up quickly to where he had been, utterly shocked to see nothing there.

Am I starting to see things?! This is really starting to creepy me out. I took a shaky breath to compose myself, walking to the window to investigate. I yelped as I looked out and saw him staring at me from across the road. I quickly slid the curtains closed, running to my door to yell at them. I opened my mouth wide to yell at him as I swung the door open, only to keep it open in surprise as no one was there anymore.

I started to settle down as the days past, at least. I saw this masked stalker at least once a day from the day I moved, and I stopped worrying since he wasn't doing anything. I had already called the police on him and tried to catch up to him, but the police laughed and I was too small to see where he would disappear to with all of the high fences surrounding the yards.

I groaned as yet again his masked appeared in the window, and I flipped him off. "Please leave me alone. I got to deal with this." I groaned, wondering how the hell the jerks from my old school had found my new email and once again began threatening. The police were no help once again; they would only be concerned if  these jackasses followed through with their plans.

I finally tore my attention away from the man and tried to get rid of the terrifying emails full of threats and harassments, but they were coming fast. Tears stung my eyes as I continued to delete them; they were a mix of desperation and frustration, wondering why these people wouldn't stop relentlessly hurting me.

After I finally blocked them and deleted all the messages, I looked up to see the masked man right against my window, so close that his breath fogged the glass. I screamed and immediately ran upstairs, locking myself into my bedroom. The cops immediately hung up when I called them again, and I whimpered softly.

The only weapon I had was an old bat from when I played softball. I picked it up shakily and made my way back downstairs, holding the bat in swinging position. I held my breath, then leaped to the window he had been at. No one was there. The glass wasn't fogged, and there was no sign of anyone. "What the hell?!?!" I cried out to myself, throwing my bat onto the couch and sitting down angrily. Who was this guy?! I already had enough shit going on.

Well, I had to start getting ready for Halloween, so maybe preparing would help take my mind off of all this chaos. Still had to go shopping for food and candy for the trick or treaters, so I better head out know.

My mind kept drifting back to the guy who stood at my window and always seemed to be watching me....

Who was he? What did he want from me?
