Michael had been distant since catching me listening to that girl's call to the police. He'd disappear for long periods of time without telling me, and I'd be alone in the house for what seemed like ages.
It was once again one of those silent, lonely days again. I was sitting on the couch boredly, when I heard my phone ringing. Curiously, I got up and grabbed it, clicking the accept button. "Hello?"
"Hello there. Is this (y/n) (y/l/n) by any chance?" A female voice asked. "This is her." I replied, confused by why this lady was calling.
"I've called to inform you of the death of your god parents. They passed away in a car crash, and their biological daughter wish to see you there at their house." The female said.
~
I had hung up after she had finished saying this, all emotion gone from my face. They were dead. Finally gone. Why in the world did my cousin want me to attend? She knew I hated my godparents with a passion.
I thought of this sad I packed a bag upstairs. I had to go back. I better start going now, since Oregon is real far away from Illinois.
I scribbled down a note and left it on the table, telling Michael I was gone. With a sigh, I picked up my overly stuffed bag and opened the door, only to run face-first into Michael.
"Jesus! You scared me!" I exclaimed, but he simply walked past. Panicking that he would read the note and not allow me to go, I ran out the door and to my car, tossing my bag in the passengers seat and starting the engine.
I gasped a bit as I pulled out of the drive way, seeing Michael throw the door open seconds later and come after me. I put a lead foot to the gas, the engine roaring as I quickly drove off in a frightening speed.
~
The flight over to Oregon was long and boring. The old fat guy sitting next to me snored the entire time, so I didn't get any shuteye at all. I definitely woke up more though when we were told we were landing in Oregon in five minutes.
I stepped out of the doors of the airport and into a cab, asking to drive to the small condo I lived in for so long. I breathed deeply, trying to calm myself down before getting out of the car.
I walked to the front door, hesitating before giving a soft knock. Running feet could be heard from inside, and I was surprised to see a small child, maybe a little less than three, answer the door. "You must be auntie!" He said with an ecstatic giggle, grabbing the air with his hands as a sign to pick him up.
~
I smiled softly and lifted him into my arms, laughing as my cousin came screeching around the corner and grinning in relief that it was me. "Oh thank god. I was scared it was a stranger! That's Johnathan, by the way." My cousin, Tawny said.
"It's good to see you again." She sighed tiredly. We were both sat at the kitchen table with coffee, Jonathan upstairs for his afternoon nap. "It's good being back, though it's strange to walk in and not be yelled at." I replied with a soft laugh, taking a drink from my mug.
"I didn't know you had Jonathan." I added in after a comfortable silence, looking to Tawny curiously. "I didn't know I was having him. Ex-fiancé left when he found out I was pregnant with his child." Tawny sighed, shaking her head. "I can barely afford to keep him. I'm really worried."
~
That last sentence had hit me hard. "What do you mean?" I asked, confusion on my face. "I can barely afford to get clothes and food for myself, let alone pay the mortgages for a house and pay for Jonathan. That's why I was still living here." She sighed, rubbing her head tiredly.
I thought silently for a bit, thinking to myself. "What if I took him off your hands for a while? Long for enough to get you back on your feet? I've got a steady job and it would give you your own free time." I offered.
Tawny's eyes shot wide open at the offer, silently moving her lips to try and form words. "I-I couldn't ask that much from you!" She exclaimed, looking frazzled. I just have a comforting smile and shook my head. "It's my honor. He already seems to like me."
Tawny nodded her head silently, looking deep in thought as she took this information in. After a long, tedious silence, she finally sighed and let her shoulders slump. "Just until I can get a better pay wage and save some money up. I promise."
~
"I'm staying with auntie for a while?!" Jonathan yelled happily, grinning ear to ear. Tawny had just told him the news about coming to Illinois with me, and He seemed absolutely thrilled.
The rest of the week was full of events. Getting Jonathan ready, reading the wills, attending the funeral, and more. The day I was to leave was hard for Tawny to say goodbye to Jonathan, but she finally let him go and let us enter the plane.
I was in awe that Jonathan didn't tantrum or whine while on the plane ride, and he slept the most of the time as well. "Wake up, hon. Time to go." I murmured softly to Jonathan, picking him up in my arms and getting off the plane.
~
I soon arrived back home, Jonathan still sleeping as I carried him and the luggage back into the house. I was majorly surprised seeing the house a complete disaster. I sighed and rolled my eyes, tipping the couch back up and Latin the luggage and Jonathan down on it.
I cleaned up and put everything back to normal as Jonathan slept, finally sighing tiredly and sitting on the couch. I pulled Jonathan onto my lap and laid back, letting my eyes close.
That didn't last long, though. I woke up to see Michael opening the door, and both of us stared at one another wide-eyed. He looked at me, then to Jonathan, then back to me.
"Hehe... surprise... we have a kid for a while." I said nervously, giving an anxious smile.
~
Lololol I got grounded from my phone, so I won't be on very much until I eat it back 😂😂😂 updates will be slow, but I'll try to sneak on.
