Keeping both their eyes peeled, Seth and Sylva walked slowly and cautiously back to Seth’s house. Both the sun being set and Sylva’s tattoos no longer glowing allowed for easy travel through the forest. The dark night sky didn’t hinder Seth’s sense of direction.

Seth, noticing the light from his home in the distance, tapped Sylva on the shoulder and continued to sneak through the shadows until they both arrived at the back entrance to the house. Turning the door slowly, as if afraid of seeing his parents as much as seeing the demons, the two crept into the house, hoping to attract as little attention as possible. Out of nowhere, Seth’s mother noticed Seth and said at a normal tone of voice, “Seth, is that you? What are you doing sneaking through the house?” Seth, very startled, quickly nudged Sylva aside, hiding her in the corner of the kitchen beside the door to the living room. “Oh, mother! Yes, it is me, Seth. I was just trying to sneak a small snack before dinner.”

Noticing how unusual that was for Seth, his mother walked over to him in hopes to find more of the truth revealed. “I saw you push something near the door. Are you hiding something? I’m your mother. There is no need to hide anything from me.” “Seth pondered whether or not to tell her about Sylva, and then decided that she would find out anyways. Seth motioned for Sylva to come out. Sylva walked out from behind the corner with little fear in her eyes, as if she knew Seth’s mother wouldn’t be mad. As Sylva removed her hood from her cloak, Seth’s mother gasped as she realized that Seth had tried to sneak a girl home. “Seth, who is she?” As if taking charge and acting as if all of this were her fault, Sylva stepped forward and said, “My name is Sylva. I was attacked by a wild Feroci this afternoon, and your brave son rushed in to protect me. I ran away from home, and I haven’t had a good meal or bed in days. You son was kind enough to offer a meal at your home and a bed for one night. I hope I am not intruding.”

Still surprised, yet happy, Seth’s mother quickly walked over to Sylva and put her arms around her. “You look very tired. Are any of you hurt?” “We are fine,” Seth calmly said. “Sylva healed me with…” Interrupted by Sylva’s stare that told him that she didn’t know if she wanted his mother to know yet, Seth re-spoke what he just said with, “I mean, she found some herbs to heal a small cut that is gone now.” With her motherly instincts kicked in, Seth’s mother quickly walked Sylva over to a table. “Would you like anything to eat? You look starved!” Calmed by how loving she was, Sylva said gratefully, “I’m fine for now. All I can ask is that you would allow me to stay for dinner.”

Once she felt that Sylva was taken care of, Seth’s mother ran over to her son and asked, “You said you were cut. Where were you cut?” Seth pulled up his sleeve to reveal a healthy arm with little to no signs of damage. Confused, his mother said, “I thought you said you were cut. How does a cut fully heal in a day?” She quickly turned to Sylva, remembering that her son told her that Sylva had healed it with an herb. “What exactly did you do to heal his cut?” Now casually sitting with her cloak resting on her chair, Sylva began to ponder the result of telling her the truth. Convinced already that she was a kind, trustworthy person, Sylva revealed her secret. “I am more that I appear to be. I noticed that when you saw me, along with noticing that I was a girl, you noticed my unusual purple hair. If Seth obtained his kind heart from you, I feel alright with telling you. I am a Videun. I healed your son’s cut with excess energy I removed from the gemstone in his dagger.”

Seth pulled out the dagger to help his mother know what was going on. When he pointed to the purple gemstone in the center of the hilt, his mother remembered some of what she knew about Videuns from “The Legend of Adesse”, such as their ability to transfer energy from gemstones to themselves and others. As if she were in the presence of someone famous, Seth’s mother’s face grew a huge smile as she walked back over to Sylva. “You are a Videun?” Sylva nodded calmly. “Seth, how long have you known about this?” “I helped her fend off the Feroci mid day today. I would say about five or six hours.”
