Soulmates are Stupid: chapter 14
This a fluff chapter, but there is some depressing thoughts.
It was finally Friday. And Dan was certainly excited. He didn't know what to wear, but it was just to the movies so he could wear something casual. That and he got one of his friends to help him. He decided on his moth button-down and black skinny jeans and those white Vans that you can get at clothing stores in the shopping centre.
He flopped onto his bed, groaning as the springs stabbed his rib cage.
"You alright mate?" Joe Sugg asked. He and Joe weren't the closest friends but they were close ones. Did that make sense? Probably not.
"I have my first date with my soulmate today," Dan said.
"Oh, the first date. When Caspar and I just started to date, it was pretty awkward. But it'll get better."
"Man, I hope so."
Dan's heart fluttered when he heard heavy footsteps outside his room.
"Is that him?" Dan asked.
Joe shrugged. "It will be if the person knocks."
At there it was. The knock that made Dan's breathing stop. It was light, unlike the footsteps.
Dan didn't want to be too eager when opening the door. He waited a couple of seconds before opening the door.
Dan's breathing hitched when he saw Phil. He was more handsome today. Of course, he was always sexy but today was his best.
Why thank you, Daniel, Phil said. I bet your thoughts always flatter me.
Dan blushed. "Ready to go?"
"Graham," Joe said, falsely coughing in the process.
"What?" Phil asked, squinting his eyes and tilting his head.
"You should name your child Graham after all of that eye sex you just did. And I'll just go. AND USE PROTECTION!" Joe said, squeezing his way between the narrow gap and he headed to the staircase.
"Why do people keep telling us that?" Dan asked.
Phil shrugged. "Well let's get going."
Dan went back inside to get his coat, phone and keys before closing the door and locking it.
"Let's go," Dan replied, his smile broadening.
~
Dan and Phil went to a café after their film.
"So did you enjoy it?" Phil asked, playing with the straw to his water.
"I guess," Dan said with a shrug. "It was distracting with the sunshine in my eyes."
Phil smiled. "Sorry."
Dan chuckled and took a look out the window. People were speed walking trying to get out of the sudden downpour of freezing rain. Across the street, there was a man in a suit and tie (and pants obviously) under a roof to a tattoo place lighting a cigarette and taking a long drag on it. It was dark out, street lights, neon signs and the passing cars where the only things lighting up the darkness.
Dan turned back to Phil and looked into his eyes. Dan never really noticed how, from a distance, they look just blue. No. They were more than 'just blue'. They had little flecks of green and yellow as well as blue.
"I like your eye colour," commented Dan.
Dan hated his features. His eyes and hair were both brown. His skin was tanned. He wasn't unique. He was quite basic.
Phil blushed. "Well thank you, Dan."
Dan looked at his Soulmark. He didn't deserve a soulmate. He deserved to be dead, like what Dan originally thought Phil was--dead.
Phil put his hand on Dan's wrist. "You deserve a soulmate, Dan."
"And why is that?" Dan asked.
"Because you're special. Because without you, maybe in the future, hundreds of people would have died because they believe that they aren't important. Because maybe in the future you change the world for the better. Because maybe without you, I'm nothing."
Dan gaped at Phil. "Fuck, Phil. Now I'm gonna cry."
Phil smiled a toothy grin. "Don't cry, craft."
They finished their coffees and headed back to campus.
~
Dan was soaked. His hobbit hair was back. Phil walked with him to his room.
"You don't have to," Dan told him.
"Yes I do," Phil insisted.
They climbed up the stairs, visible water footprints littered the gray plastic.
Once they hit Dan's floor, they turned into the hallway. They reached Dan's dorm, and Phil stopped.
"Goodbye, Phil," Dan said.
Phil leaned in. Then leaned out. "'Bye, Dan."
Was he going to kiss me? Dan asked himself. "Probably not." Dan said aloud when Phil was gone.
Well hello my queens, I've had a pretty bad day (and week) so far and where I live it's only 11 o'clock in the morning. First things first, this morning they completely changed my pre-teen favorite show and someone complained about something in my neighborhood and now our waters gonna be out until 6 pm. And on Tuesday I bled through my pants and onto my shoes. Thank the Lord that it was at the end of the day. And ajeverly posted the first chapter to her story about Josh Dun. I really like it so far when I edited it.
AND... WILD comes out on Wednesday! I hope you'll like it!
