Soulmates are Stupid: chapter 22; epilogue part one

NOTE: Can't Help Falling in Love is a good song for this chapter. Doesn't matter if it's a cover or the original.

Dan woke up. He graduated a year or so ago, and he was looking forward to not having to work that day. It was his and Phil's anniversary and they were doing something special.

And knowing their definition of special, it was probably watching the minion movie on their sofa, cuddling under a fluffy blanket.

But unbeknownst to Dan, Phil had a plan.

Speaking of Phil, Dan didn't know where he was. He was probably at the school teaching. He might have taken off, but Dan didn't really know. Phil's teaching life is different than his home life.

Dan got out of bed and ran down the steps. There was a note on the door.

Daniel,

I had to run somewhere for a little bit (okay, my job) and I'll be back soon

I love you,

Phillip

So Dan was kind of bitter that Phil couldn't take off when Dan did. He had a case for some murderer's trial, and he put it off just for one day. Dan decided to work in the office until Phil came back around 3:30 pm. And by work, Dan meant play on his phone until he needs food or something else.

Dan went back up to their room -- just to get his phone.

He stomped all the way up the stairs (his bad mood was getting the best of him). He opened the door with such force. So much force that the door shook and...he stopped. Another letter on a sticky note was on the back of his phone.

He read it quickly, searching for the place Phil wants him to go. The balcony. This Manchester apartment has a balcony that makes Dan feel like he can people-watch with no awkward stares.

There was another note saying that Phil wants Dan to get dressed up for dinner, funny because it's only breakfa--

Nevermind. It's two p.m.

He re-read the note, noticing that Dan has to be ready at 5:30; that's when Phil will pick him up.

Dan decided to watch an anime that they as a couple have watched before. Just in case Phil gets home early and sees Dan on the sofa.

Dan picks up a bag of Doritos (what they're good?) and settles back into the couch.

Dammit! Dan screamed into his mind, not caring if Phil heard it.

What's the matter, Danny? Phil replied. Dan could tell that if Phil was here, his voice would be laced with innocence.

Fuck you. I love you. Dan quoted from his old roommate, Felix.

Okay?

Dan giggled.

I'll be home soon, I love you.

Okay. I love you too.

Dan didn't hear a response so Phil must have been carrying on what he was doing before Dan cried out.

He continued watching Ouran High School Host Club and eating the Doritos.

TIME SKIP BECAUSE I HAVE SOME CUTE STUFF COMING UP SOON AND I DON'T WANT TO WRITE DAN EATING DORITOS AND GETTING THE FLAVOURING DUST ON HIS CROTCH AND FINGERS AND MOST THINGS IN BETWEEN.

Phil unlocked the door quietly, hoping that he could scare the living daylights out of him.

Alas, in Phil's case, Dan was at the breakfast bar. He was dressed up in nice clothing (a/n image above), and he was playing on his phone.

"Hey, stranger," Dan called, not looking up from his phone.

"Come on," Phil went to take Dan's hand into his.

Dan noticed that Phil was dressed up already.

Phil pulled Dan down the stairs, out the doors and to a car.  More specifically, Phil's car.

This seems like you want to kidnap me, Dan stated the obvious.

Maybe I do want to kidnap you, Phil replied.

Dan glanced a Phil, who had a cheeky little smirk plastered on his face.

"Where are you taking me?" Dan asked, his eyes on the road.

Phil smiled once more. "You'll see."

Dan kept his mouth shut the rest of the car trip.

Phil let a valet take the car. They were currently at Chez Llama, a fancy restaurant outside of the Manchester area.

"Why didn't we stay near the apartment?" Dan asked.

"You'll see," Phil said again.

Phil took Dan's hand again and pulled Dan to the building.

"Reservation to Lester," Phil said to the hostess.

She nodded and took two menus and sets of silverware and took them to their table.

"Thank you, Janice," Dan smiled.

Janice returned the smile. "You're welcome. Have a nice meal guys."

She left quickly. Too quickly. Almost as if she knew the plan.

Anyways, Dan and Phil ordered a lovely meal. Phil decided that for their anniversary, they should order a Merlot.

"I mean, it's not really special," Dan countered.

Phil gasped. "It's our anniversary."

Dan gulped and quickly accepted Phil's proposal (author coughs quietly) for the beverage.

They got their drink quickly. However, life goes wrong all the time, they couple got their dessert before their actual meal. Typical.

The food never came; the bill came and the food they didn't get wasn't on the bill.

Dan got up, and he heard a fork fall.

He turned around and gasped.

Phil was on one knee, an engagement ring and case in his hands.

Dan's hands covered his mouth, and he felt the tears threatening to escape.

"Daniel James Howell, will you do the honour of becoming my husband?" Phil asked.

Dan put the ring on his finger, tears finally falling. "Why would I ever say no?"
