Stark and I rolled over to the boat. I kept breathing deeply. I can't believe I left them. Why did I leave them?
Alec almost died and I left him. Jace got arrested and is probably going to the City of Bones for his trial. Why did I leave them?
Stark got up when Valentine walked over. "Sara, how is Jonathan?"
I didn't say anything. I kept staring at the floor, reliving the past hour. Stark noticed my hesitation and answered, "Some wolves went after him. Don't worry, they've been dealt with. But, we did run into some complications."
"Complications?"
"The Clave arrested him and he's being taken to the City of Bones as we speak." Valentine smiled. "You don't seemed unfazed by this, sir."
"The Clave will finally make Jonathan come to his sense. It's only a matter a time before he comes back."
I let out a frustrated breath before getting up, "And what if he doesn't, huh? What then? I know Jace and he won't come back. He still believes in the Clave - no....he believes in Clary. So as long as she's against you, he's right there next to her."
Stark had to hold me back from ripping Valentine's head off, "Sorry, sir. We also had a run in with a few Shadowhunters."
Valentine nodded his head, "Thank you, Stark." He sighed before looking at me. "Sara, I understand that you don't want to harm your friends, I do. But, as long as you remain by my side, they will only see you as the enemy."
I glared at him, "No, they won't. Izzy's my parabatai and I love Alec. They wouldn't do anything to hurt me."
"Which is why it will be their weakness." He placed his hand on my shoulder. "To love is to destroy, remember that. I can't let your love for your friends destroy you...Which is why I want you to forget all about them. Forget about your friendship with the Lightwoods. Forget about whatever relationship you had with Alec. They are your enemies now."
"They're my enemies now." I repeated slowly. Izzy and Alec. They're against Valentine. If they're against him, then they're against me. They don't understand that the Downworlders need to be dealt with. "Isabelle and Alec Lightwood are my enemies."
Valentine patted my back, "Precisely."
"All right, what's our plan of attack? How are we going to get Jace back?"
Valentine removed his hand and began walking down to the docks with Stark and me following, "We need to create a diversion. Get the Clave distracted long enough to enter the City of Bones and break Jonathan out."
"How are we going to do that?" Stark asked.
Valentine grabbed one of the boxes off the table, "I've been saving this for while now. If the Clave believes they're protecting the Downworlders from demons, why not give them one."
I furrowed my eyebrows, "How's a demon going to create a distraction? If anything, they'll kill it in a few minutes."
"Not if the demon possesses them." Valentine opened the box and a black cloud of mist came out of it. I took my seraph out when the demon loomed over us. "Now, now, Sara. This demon is on our side."
The demon flew away from the boat. "Where's it going?" Stark asked.
"The Institute. Now, I need your service young Destro."
"What do you need?"
"That warlock, Dot, needs to learn a lesson in loyalty -"
Stark nodded, "No problem." He looks at me. "Can't wait till the next round."
