A Dark Reflection

So, the Clave's been lying about having the Soul-Sword. Why doesn't that surprise me? I still can't get over it. I mean, if they don't have the sword that means someone else does. We don't even know who has the Soul-Sword of if they're working for Valentine.

To add more things going to shit, Clary thought she could track Jonathan with the Tracker rune. But when she and Jace tried to use it on the baby items, they were gone. The hair and the shoe just disappeared along with Sara's bow. So Valentine got Duncan to steal a pair of baby booties. I understand Jonathan's, but why Sara's? I can't think like that right now, today is Max's first mission after his training with Izzy.

Alec chuckled at me as I kept looking around the hall for Maxxie. "Sammy, Max's going to be here any minute."

I couldn't help but beam with excitement. "I know. I know. I'm just so happy for him. He gets to go on his very first mission. Remember our first mission?"

Alec pulled my arm and brought me close. "How could I forget? You didn't sleep all night and kept me up."

"I didn't see you complain about it." He raised his eyebrow at me. "After the first three hours."

"Because your hardheaded that's why." I slapped his chest which caused him to laugh. "And speaking of three hours, Magnus got us reservations for dinner. He wanted to help me make tonight special."

I smiled. "That's nice of him. But I feel like he's more into our relationship than we are."

He nodded. "Because he knows how much you mean to me." Then he gave a shy chuckle. "And now that I said it out loud makes me realize how cheesy that sounds."

I leaned up and kissed him. "Well, I still love it."

Alec brought me closer and leaned down. He placed a soft kiss on my lips. My hands found the collar of his jacket and I brought him closer. I sighed in happiness before I heard a little cough behind us.

"Try to savor it while it last," Max said from behind us. "I'll get Manny before you know it."

I turned around and my smile got wider. "Maxxie!" I yelled with my arms out wide.

Max ran over and hugged me. "Manny!" He pulled away and looked at Alec. "Mom said you have some news for me."

Alec nodded. "I spoke to the Clave. They're very impressed with your progress. They think you're ready for your first mission. What do you think?"

Max smiled. I knew he would be ready. "I've been ready since the day I got here," He said with determination.

I wrapped my arms around him and paced my chin on top of his head. "Then you better hurry up and get your butt over to training. You know how Izzy hates tardiness."

Max nodded before heading out the door. Jace, who patted Max's back in greeting, and Clary came in the room.

"Any sign of Jonathan?" Alec asked.

Jace held the box up. "No. We tracked the box itself, but it was a dead end."

We all looked at the door to see Max linger behind hit. He sighed before he left the room.

"So Valentine sent Duncan to steal baby clothes?"

"Someone did. Someone who wanted to circumvent us from tracking Jonathan."

"And now we have no leads on either of them. We've got nothing," Clary said.

"Actually, we have less than nothing," I said.

Jace and Clary gave me a confused look, but Alec spoke. "There's something you should know. The Clave doesn't have the Soul-Sword. They never did."
