I haven't seen Stark since then. I let Madzie play around the park while Valentine gets his plan together. It's smart, I'll give him that. If I could just warn Jace...but I can't.

My phone rang and it's Jace calling, speak of the devil. "Hey." I said when I answered.

"Sam, Clary's in trouble. I need your help."

"Oh, god. Is she ok? What happened?"

"You know that blood oath she owes. It's starting to affect her. So, we're going to look for Madzie."

I shook my head even though he can't see me, "You don't need to. She's with me."

He let out a chuckle, "That was easy. Where are you?"

This is the tough part. "I'm sorry, Jace. I can't tell you."

I don't need to be on the other line to see Jace's face getting angry, "What do you mean you can't tell me?"

I sighed, "Jace, I can't tell you where we are."

I heard him curse. "It's Valentine, isn't it?" He asked.

"Yeah."

He sighed, "At least tell me if you and Madzie are safe?"

I looked over at Madzie to see her getting an ice cream cone. "Yeah, we're safe. Come on, look who you're talking to "

"Good. Keep it that way. I'm coming for the both of you."

I opened my mouth to tell him no, but my phone was met with a clicking noise. Shit, he already hung up. Valentine's plan is already working. I can't warn anyone. This sucks.

Madzie came over with her ice cream and sat next to me on the bench. "Do you know where my nana is?" She asked.

She's locked away. She deserves it. But, I wasn't going to tell a little kid that. "I don't." I lied. She looked sad for a moment. "Hey, I promise you'll see your nana again."

Valentine strolled by us, "And Sara always keeps her promises." Valentine smiled. "How are my girls?"

I did my best to not glare at him, "We're great."

"That's what I want to hear. Sara, get Madzie ready for dinner tonight. We have a special someone coming."

"Who?" I asked when Valentine started walking away.

He smiled, "Your brother."

Wait, what? I grabbed Madzie and caught up to him. "What do you mean? I thought Clary was going to get her."

He sighed, "You seem to underestimate Jonathan. He wouldn't put Clarissa in harms way. I suspect he would come."

"Wh - what about the plan?"

"The plan is still set in motion. Jonathan coming is only a little bump. Nothing we should worry about, now do we?"

I know Jace is coming. But, not this soon. I gave a nervous glance at Madzie before looking at Valentine. "Nothing at all."

I couldn't help my chest pounding rapidly. I know what I have to do, I just hope Jace sees the same thing. Valentine took us to this cafe. I thought about it in my head. He wanted Jace to find Madzie, not Clary. No matter who came tonight one thing is certain...Valentine is going to get Clary. I can't let that happen.

Valentine placed a hot chocolate cup in front of Madzie, "Careful, Madzie. Don't burn yourself, hmm?" Madzie smiled at us before placing her hands in front of her cup before turning it into a popsicle. She picked it up and started licking it, causing Valentine to chuckle and me to smile at her.
