Chapter Nine
I cradle Sally in my arm, and walk to her room. I've laid Charlie on her shoulder, and I hope he doesn't fall of. I look around. Where's Sally's room? I stand in the hallway for a while, then Ben comes out of his room.
"Hey, Ben!" I call. He turns to look at me.
"Yeah?" he asks.
"Where's Sally's room?"
"It's the room on the other side of Jane's."
"Okay, thanks."
I carry the little girl down the hall to her room. As soon as I open the door and turn on the lights, a rush of sorrow fills me. This is almost exactly what my childhood room looked like. The pink walls, the "princess" bed, a queen four-poster bed with a pink canopy, the small table and chairs, the table set with tiny teacups and saucers, the mini kitchen in the corner, and tons of toy bins. I lay Sally down near the foot of the bed, fold down the covers, then tuck her in. I see a tiny blue bed with Charlie's name is painted on the headboard, so I lay him on there and tuck him in too.
No wonder Sally lives here without being scared to death, I smile to myself, they spoil her. Good thing she's not a brat.
I look back down at her, and smile.
"Don't you ever grow up," I whisper.
When I turn around, I see something I didn't notice before. Adorable pictures she drew and some photographs are hung on the walls. I pull out my phone, turn it on for a flashlight, then look at the pictures. In one picture, she drew two men, a woman, a girl that is shorter then the men and woman but not too short (maybe a twelve year old?), and... I think that's her. Is that her human family?
"Oh my gosh," I murmur. That is kinda sad. The next picture hung on the wall is a photo. It's Sally getting a ride on a man's shoulders. And there she is, getting Charlie for Christmas. Then there's a picture of her with the others, Slendy, Jane, Jeff, Ben, EJ, Masky, Hoody, two more faceless men that must be related to Slendy, a man that might also be related to Sledy but has a face, a guy who looks like a clown, and a girl who carved a smile like Jeff's into her face and stitched her eyelids open. I bet she's Nina. She's wearing a purple hoodie, red-and-black-striped socks, a black skirt, and sneakers, so...
She's holding Sally up on her shoulders.
The next one makes me want to laugh. It's Sally when she gets this room as a bed room. She's so happy.
But the rest of the pictures are ones she drew of her "human family". Now I want to cry. Sort of. She seemed so happy with them, but she's happy here too.
And as long as I'm here, I'll be like the sister she lost. Maybe even nicer.
-------------------------I know, back to short chapters. Sigh. I'll work on it.
