Luke’s POV
I gasped and tried to slam the door, but it wouldn’t close. “I’m not here to hurt you.” Jai said somehow calmly. “We need to talk.” I looked down and noticed his foot was in the way, his hand pushing against the door with so much force I had to gather up all my strength so I wouldn’t go flying. “And I’m meant to believe that?” I heard him laugh, and suddenly saw the roof, a familiar face hovering above me now. “A bit late now isn’t it?”
I stood up as fast I could, but it was too late. He had made his way already into the kitchen, pouring himself a drink of water? Mum and Beau, who must have recognised the voice, ran down the hallway and stopped where I was, staring at Jai, as equally shocked as I was. “I know,” He said, placing the cup down. “Not so evil drinking water am I?”
He then leaned up against the counter, tilting his head, obviously waiting for us to speak. But what was there to say? “Well go on, scream and shout, call the cops, do what you fucking do best and run from me.” We stayed quiet against, this obviously upsetting him, as Jai’s knuckles had gone white from the grip he had on the counter. “You remember Luke, when I said I wasn’t here to hurt you?” He said through gritted teeth, his gaze landing on me. “Well that may become a lie if you don’t start talking.”
“What do you want?” Mum asked, stepping forward, now about a metre away from him. “What could possibly make you break out of that place? Obviously not for the thrill of seeing us.” Jai nodded as he poured himself another glass. “Well there is a reason, but you’re kinda not allowed to know. And as for why I’m here, it’s a little errand my friend sent me on.” Beau scoffed suddenly, everyone now looking at him. “I’m sorry but you have friends?” Before anyone could move, Jai had picked up a knife and thrown it in Beau’s direction, almost piercing his skin as it sunk into the wall beside him. I tensed, not just for Beau’s sake, but at how accurate that throw was.
If he wanted to, he could kill us all in a heartbeat, literally.
“I’m sorry, but did I ask for your opinion brother?” He spat, me noticing he had another knife beside him, his shaking hand dangerously close to it. “Look Jai, whatever it is you want, money or just a place to stay for the night, we can give you that just-“I couldn’t finish my sentence, as Jai had made a weird choking noise, his face paling and his eyes widening scarily. Mum went to his side instantly as he dropped to the ground, her hands placed on the side of his cheeks.
“What’s happening?” Beau said, looking at the scene in front of him. “Does it look like I fucking know?” I kneeled down next to mum; who I still had no idea why she was helping him. “Mum what’s-“”He’s muttering things about pills.” She said, me glancing down to see Jai muttering words and pointing to his pocket. Should I help him? I asked myself. I mean, if I just left him this will all be over, right?
And without a second thought, I reached into his pocket and grabbed out a small cylinder container, my phone also falling out as pulled my hand back. My eyes widened, and I dropped the pills and stared at Jai, who pushed me and mum away and frantically opened the container, popping pills into his mouth, his eyes closing in satisfaction. “WHY THE FUCK DID YOU HAVE MY PHONE?!” I shouted, grabbing his collar and pulling him up to eye level, his brown eyes back to their murderous state.
