Luke’s POV

My heart quickened at the word, the word none of us have spoken in years. “And w-why was something of his in our wall?” Beau shrugged, me noticing his hand had begun to shake, him clamping his other hand around it so it would stop. “I don’t know, but I think I know what it opens.” My eyes widened, and I soon found myself following him down the corridor to mums room, us both knowing that she was knocked out cold from the pills she was taking for her face.

I shut the door and watched as Beau opened a few of her drawers, obviously the thing he was looking for had moved the last time he saw it. With a sigh of relief, he pulled out a small silver box from the bottom of her cupboard. “Here,” He said, walking over to the bed and sitting it down, the key now in his hand. I noticed that the key and box would have gone well together, but they were now aged with years of dust and dirt.

He edged the key to the hole with hesitation, before putting it in and turning it, the lid flying open, both of us peering in curiously. My eyes widened, both of our heads turning to look at the other. There, lying untouched and shining in the box was yet another key, this one newer looking and bigger, a note attached to it, like it was destined to be found one day.

“Well go on,” Beau said. “Read it then.” (A/N See what I did there?) I took a shaky breath before reaching in and pulling out both items. I gave the key to Beau, who held it firmly in his hand, while I slowly opened the folded note, clearing my throat so I could read it out loud.

Dear Luke,” I began, Beau’s eyebrows raising in confusion. “Just Luke or-“”It just says Luke.” His jaw tightened, but the look he gave me insisted on me to keep reading. “-If you are reading this, it means that you’ve found what I had placed in your room before it all happened,” I stopped reading, Beau catching on to what I was thinking. “How did he know?” He asked slowly, me shaking my head shocked. “I am dearly sorry you were brought into all of this, and I hope nothing happened to either of you boys in the mass of it. I need to share with you something, something that I had told you before Luke, but I guess you either forgot, or kept it a secret.”

I felt light headed as I scanned the rest of the page, Beau trying to catch my attention as he couldn’t hear, but I just kept on reading. I suddenly dropped the piece of paper, my knees crumbling below me. Beau hesitated, looking between me and the note, before dropping next to me, cupping my cheeks with his hand. “Luke, what did you read?” I tried to answer, but I couldn’t speak, it was like I had swallowed my tongue.

Beau’s body jerked back suddenly, a huge needle in his arm, his eyes wide in fear, obviously looking at something behind me. I felt a burning liquid rush through my neck, before I felt even more light headed than before, me swiftly falling into a swirling pit of darkness.
