Welcome To California

Melissa

The next morning we continued our way through Nevada. It was quiet throughout the bus...I haven't talked to Andy since last night. Every time I pass by him or he com into the room, Isabel, Jessie, and Sasha give me the pedophile look. you know the one where your head is hanging low, you look up at the person and give a crazy smile. Yeah it's not a pretty sight from these three.

And I must say, he's making an effort to try and talk to me. But every single time, I find someway dodge him. Like earlier, while I was sitting on the sofa earlier reading, he came and sat next to me. repeatedly poking my arm, then the sides of my stomach...lets just say that didn't end well. I did this weird ninja move that freaked both of us out for the moment...

Anywhozers, you see my issue. I mean, I want to talk to him, I really do. But how do you talk to your best friend after something like that? We almost kiss for crying out loud. His lips were literally about a moment away from mine, but Sasha comes barging in about Pizza Hut. That short freaking cock blocker...

"Hey, Melissa, can you come here for a second?" Jessie asked. I looked up from my spot on the sofa where I was sitting like before.

"Yeah sure," I say, before following her into the back of the bus. I went ahead of her and turned on my heal when I got to the middle of the room. She closed the door behind her and looked at me, crossing her arms.

"So I hear you and Andy almost kissed last night." I gulped.

"I wouldn't say we--" Jessie cut me off with a glare. I sighed.

"Okay, we were very close to kissing. Literally less than a centimeter from kissing."

"So what stopped you two?" I gave a dumb look.

"You're kidding right? You didn't hear? Sasha walked in on us!" She scoffed.

"That doesn't mean anything! If that were me and Gordon, I would have pulled him close and planted a nice one on his lips."

"You guys are already an established couple, of course you would!" Jessie rolled her eyes.

"You know what I mean. Why are you so hesitant over this? I've seen that he's tried to talk to you today, but you've been avoiding him. Why, Mel?" I sighed and sat on the bottom bunk bed.

"I feel like I wouldn't be good enough for him. I mean, look at his last girl friend. She was pretty, talented, funny, and smart. She competed in pageants and won almost all of them. She was the perfect girl for him. He dates me, that's like downgrading from the iPhone 5s to a flip phone." I felt a hand connect to the side of my head as Jessie smacked me.

"You take that back." I gave her an exasperated look.

"Why should I? It's true!" She glared at me.

"You are not a downgrade. You're an upgrade. You're down to earth, motherly, caring, loving, talented, very pretty and smart. And what is that other girl? She's pretty, talented and smart. You're much more then she ever will be." I laughed humorlessly and looked down at my hands.

Jessie grabbed my wrist.

"You don't really think that about yourself do you?" I stood silent for a moment. I really wasn't in the mood for discussing my self esteem issues. I gave her a shrug and stood up.

"I'm gonna go get something to eat. You want anything?" She scoffed.

"Yes, a mirror so you can see yourself for who you truly are." I shook my head. I hated arguing over things like this because I know I'm right. I walked out the door and went to the living area where everyone was gathered by the front of the bus.
