Pearl's P.O.V
"IT'S JAMIE!" Steven cried out in delight, rushing over to the front door to greet the young man.
Amethyst stared and waved while I looked onward, occasionally glancing at Garnet who sat next to Steven's spot on the sofa.
"Hey Steven- seen any actor auditions lately?" He asked hopefully.
"Sorry Jamie- non yet, I'll keep an eye out!" He promised as Jamie looked at Garnet.
"Hello madam." He said graciously, it was well known that he used to like her and while I found it amusing, I supposed Ruby and Sapphire were uncomfortable.
"Morning." Garnet adjusted her shades before nodding as Jamie handed Steven a single letter, passing a clipboard for Steven to sign before pocketing it away.
"It didn't have a name- only the address so I assume you can figure it out." Jamie explained.
"Well that's rather odd." I concluded, eyeing the envelop suspiciously, "Any who, thank you Jamie." I thanked.
"The pleasure is mine." He said formerly, tipping his hat slightly towards me before waving excitedly to Amethyst. "I've gotta run, busy day today- see you round!" He called as he jogged outside and down the stairs.
Once he was out of view, Steven returned his attention to the mail, sitting in Garnet's lap as he tore open the letter excitedly.
"It's... it's for you Pearl!" Steven read, looking up at me in surprise.
"Me? Are you sure Steven?" I asked astonished, bewildered by who could have sent me anything. Immediately Amethyst took interest.
"A letter? For Pearl? Who have you been talking with lately?" She looked at me confused.
I shrugged, "No idea- does the message have a name?" I asked as Garnet stared at the paper.
"From (y/n) (l/n). I guess you know this girl." Garnet held up a small photo that was was attached to the document with a pink paperclip.
My eyes focused on the small girl in the picture that Garnet held up, my eyes widening when I recognised the small face.
"Oh my stars it's really her!" I exclaimed. "She was this little girl who used to live in Beach City- I wondered what has happened to her, she loved art the girl, always drawing in the sand near the outskirts of this town, nice drawings even if they were childish, but then Steven came along and I lost track of her!
Amethyst stared at me. "Well read it out Steven!" She encourage him before he looked at me for approval.
"Yes, do read the message- I wonder what happened." I waited as Steven semi dramatically cleared his throat and began to read.
"Dearest Pearl-" I placed a hand on my chest over my heart (do we even have hearts?) flustered by the formality.
"So sincere! I taught her those manners you know." I said proudly as Steven skimmed the page.
"She signs off with 'sincerely, (y/n)' to..." he said before continuing. "Dearest Pearl,
I know you haven't heard of me for what almost is 20 years and I'm so deeply apologetic for this long deserved letter." Steven looked up towards me with his mouth open, "20 YEARS?!" He asked.I placed a hand over my mouth before I drew it away "Well 20 years to gems hardly seems like anything!" I sighed.
Steven resumed the letter, "I do know 20 years mustn't seem like any longer than I hypothesis you would find it takes but do say hello to everyone, new and familiar!
To the point of this letter, I felt the need to write because I'd figured that I owe you a lot back to when I was just a child at Beach City.
The small crayon drawings on the scrap papers and line art in the sand, all of those you stood behind me and watched, you'd always encourage me to continue with art and would help find ways of improvement.
I've recently graduated in one of the most prestigious art institutes there are and have won many awards, not to brag.
So I know that you wouldn't find much use with it but treat yourself, thanks to you I've become a person I always wanted to be.
I hope we can meet up again sometimes soon, I've written my number on the back of the cheque.
Sincerely, (y/n)."
Steven retrieved the cheque that was in the envelope before his eyes widened and he handed it to me.
"Woah P- you're rich!" Amethyst exclaimed as I stared at the paper.
"$100,000?!" I exclaimed surprised. "Why did she give me this? I have to return it!" I stood up immediately as Steven shook his head.
"No don't do that! She might think you don't remember her or don't like the gift, just put it in a bank... save it." He suggested.
"I see." I said in understanding.
I flipped the paper over quickly to find her number written on the back in small neat handwriting. I smiled before raising it and storing it within my gem along with the letter she had written.
"When did you meet that girl and how come you never told me about her before?" Amethyst asked.
"It wasn't relevant at the time but it's nice to know we can keep in touch now, and to think that she still remembers me after all this time..." I smiled fondly before standing up.
"I wanna meet her!" Steven declared happily before hoping off Garnet's lap and walking up to me.
"Maybe I can arrange something this weekend... I do hope she's available however, I admit myself, I want to see her to." I smiled.
"20 years seems like so long? Are you sure it went by so fast?" Amethyst asked as I shrugged.
"20? 200? 2000? Who am I to know, but it's been 20 years, and no matter how fast or slow it seems, 20 years not seeing someone does stuff to you." I replied. Amethyst grinned before elbowing me lightly.
"20 years huh? Now that's a strong bond"
