"Come on Haily! We're gonna be late!"
It seems like that's what I hear every morning.
"I'll be downstairs in just a second!" I called to Lindsey. I quickly put on some mascara then grabbed my bag and walked quickly down the stairs."Took you long enough." Lindsey said and rolled her eyes. She may be my best friend but she needs to learn some patience. "Well I'm sorry if I want to look my best when we go to the White House!"
I've been waiting for 3 months for this day. Me and Lindsey are going on a tour of the White House! We even get to meet the president! It's for my fathers latest discovery. He's an archeologist and isn't around much but when he is he tells us all about his latest discoveries. He recently found a small village located inside of an underwater cave in the Atlantic Ocean. My little sister thinks it's where all the mermaids used to live, I wish I had her imagination.
"Good point...let's just hurry so your dad doesn't leave without us." We walked outside to the limousine and stepped inside. "This is so cool!" Lindsey grabbed the remote and looked at all the different channels. "They have Netflix!" Lindsey gasped. I laughed and took the remote from her and set it down.
It was a long drive to the White House and Lindsey talked the whole way there. "Will the President be nice like he is on TV? Will we get to see the Declaration of Independence? Omg what if we get to see the Declaration of Independence!"
I tuned her out and looked out the window at all of the cars passing by. I can't believe out of all the people in the world I get to have this life, I thought to myself. When I was younger I always dreamed of being rich and famous. I would imagine wearing beautiful dresses and having maids doing my every command. Now that it's actually my life, it's so much different then I imagined. We have maids but they're my friends not my servants. I have beautiful dresses but I still prefer shorts and a t-shirt everyday. It's funny how things turn out, you imagine a different life and then suddenly its reality but nothing like what you thought.
I was suddenly pulled out of my thoughts by the driver opening my door and offering me his hand. I took it gratefully and stepped out of the limousine. Lindsey did the same and stepped beside me. "Are you excited?" She asked gleefully. "Feels like a dream." I responded.
We walked up the steps to the White House and my father was led to a room to discuss some matters with the President. He looked so calm and collected. I don't know how he does it.
A woman with short blonde hair walked over to us. "Are you two Miss Lockner and Miss Rosatelli?" We both nodded smiling professionally but screaming with excitement on the inside. "I am Mrs. Clark, I will be your guide on this tour. If there's anything you need to do before we start the bathrooms are to the left and the snacks are to the right." She sounds so professional. I guess you'd have to be if your working for the President. I went to the left and Lindsey, of course; went to the right.
I looked in the mirror and fixed my hair. Lindsey always tells me that, since I have good hair; I have to fix it every 10 minutes. I learned not to questions her logic.
After I fixed my hair I splashed cold water on my face. Mr. President likes the air warm I suppose because it's super hot inside the White House. I wipe off my face and look in the mirror. "Ahhh!" I scream. I turn around and see a tall woman looking at me with interest. "Who are you?!" I said with fright and confusion. "Oh, alas I forgot to introduce myself. I am Fara Lancing. I am Protector of the Elementals." She replied calmly as if this was completely normal, which it was most definitely not. "Protector of the Elementals.." I whispered to myself. "Am I supposed to know what an elemental is?" I asked. "Well I assumed you would considering you are one, but I guess you haven't been taught about them. An elemental is someone who can control an element. Like fire and water. You my dear, are a fire elemental." She said, yet again, very calmly.
This lady must be insane. She actually believes in magic. I should go get someone. On the other hand I could hear her out and possibly be able to control fire...looks like we have a winner. "So your saying I'm an 'elemental' and that I can control fire. And your my protector?" I asked. She nodded in reply. "What exactly are you protecting me from?" She looked uneasy for a moment before answering "the dravens. They are users of dark power and are trying to take all of the power from the elementals. I, along with many others, have a special light magic that can ward off dravens until the Elementals escape."
I thought for a moment about what she had just said. This all seems so unreal but I really want to believe it. I just need some proof. "If I'm an elemental, how come I've never controlled fire before? I'm pretty sure I would know if I could control fire." I said in a smart way, yet hoping I was wrong. "Well have you actually ever tried to control fire?" Good point. "I guess not..can you show me how? Just enough to prove that it's true." She smiled softly and nodded.
She motioned for me to copy her movements. She told me to think of fire and wave my hand as if waving to a friend then face my palm to the air, only thinking of fire. It was hard but I managed to block out all other thoughts. I copied her hand gesture and a small flame emitted from my hand. I gasped and dropped my hand, the flame disappearing.
"Show me more."
