Iris woke up wrapped in the softest sheets, surrounded by a flock of fluffy pillows. Nyx had insisted she stayed with him until the morning. As long as she did not know the castle by heart, she was not to leave his side, he had said and lain down on the canapé. When he threatened to personally throw her into his bed, if she kept begging him to use it himself for the sake of his health, she finally gave up. The thought had been too embarrassing.
But now that she grew more conscious of her surroundings, she felt something heavy resting on the blanket that covered her abdomen. A faint groan when she tried to sit up straight. Iris froze. Cautiously, her left hand searched the sea of cloth surrounding her and grabbed a strand of long, soft hair, spread about wildly, covering a pair of majestic horns.Nyx.
Iris could not help but giggle. She would have loved to behold this sight. Alas, it was about 15 years too late.
When she tried to move another inch, Nyx groaned again, his hand above the blanket growing ten times heavier. She was caught.Nyx blinked.
How long had he been sleeping? He felt heavy as a stone. As much as his drowsy mind thought about it, he could not remember a time when he had slept more soundly. The blankets surrounded him, warm and comforting. Lying on his chest, he had dug his face deeply into the cloth. Like a child, he thought.Wait.
Cloth?
He opened his eyes a little more to find white, wavy hair falling all around him. Behind the dune of white cotton that blocked his view, someone was breathing softly.
Right.
Cautious not to wake her, he lifted himself up a little.
Right beside him, under his arm, an angel, a goddess was sleeping. Her face looked so peaceful. Her long eyelashes glistened in the morning sun, breaking its light into a manifold of colours. As if made of glass, he thought, removing a strand of hair from her soft cheek. Her small mouth was heart-shaped, her lips red and full. He traced the form of her horns, framing this beautiful face perfectly. Sticking out between them were her pointed, small ears, completely covered in pale brown fur. They twitched the moment his finger tip met them. He grinned.Iris.
"Mh", she went.
This was too adorable. He had to wake her before loosing his mind.
Iris, wake up.
She slowly opened her eyes.
"King Nyx", she mumbled, pulling the blanket up a bit more. Then she came to her senses, looking completely embarrassed within but a moment. "I... I am sorry! I meant to leave the bed and make space for you, but...but...", she stuttered, trying to cover her face with the blanket she was still holding onto.
It was my force of habit, after all, he said."...Good morning", her voice from under the cloth.
Nyx could not restrain himself. You are too adorable, he laughed, and dug her face back up from under the sheets. Good morning, he said, sealing his greeting with a kiss. Let us not waste any more time.
