Notice me, Senpai

Just a random memory I thought I'd share.

This one time, during class, I was trying to get my band director's attention to ask her a question. I have a quiet voice that isn't heard well above other people's, so she didn't notice me calling her, like, ten times.

Eventually, out of frustration and exasperation (and partially because I had just learned the phrase and was dying to use it), I, knowing I wouldn't be heard, said, "Notice me, senpai!"

My friend, who sits next to me, turned, gave me the strangest look, and just went, "Whaaat?"

I don't remember if my question got answered.
