I'm going to a new school this year that has a marching band (my previous one didn't since there wasn't a football team)! Here are some things I've learned:
1. Marching is really hard. I cannot do it yet. I look really awkward.
2. They are serious when they say not to lock your legs. (I've already fallen twice because I don't know how to stand with my legs bent.)
3. After a while, all the sets start to blur together until you have no idea where you're supposed to go.
4. Your dots fade after a while. If you haven't learned how to get to that particular set, this is terrifying.
5. You must wear sunscreen. No exceptions.
6. Instruments left out in the sun get hot. They will burn you when you touch them.
7. Water is precious.
8. Cloudy days are amazing.
9. Everything I thought I knew about standing is wrong.
10. When you finally get it right, it feels amazing.
I was told that band camp wouldn't be that fun, but it was honestly great. I'm really excited for the first game. Everyone's saying how great that will be.
Anyways, I'm not sure how much I'll update, but I'll try to update at least every few days or so. I hope you guys are having a good school year if you've started already and good luck if you haven't!
