Percy's POV

Okay so, I know what you're thinking. This is just going to be some lame life story about the underdog. Well, guess what. It's not. Well, maybe. I don't know yet. We'll see what happens. Let me introduce myself.

Percy Jackson. Hi, nice to meet you.

I don't do this a lot, so, I don't know. Do we shake hands or something? No? Okay. Well, let's just get right to it.

The day started out as any other day. You know, getting chased down by monsters, the usual. I was running through the woods in Pennsylvania, I think, by a couple of Empusae. I had upset them because I ruined their picnic by stepping on a couple of their sandwiches and then they yelled something along the lines of, "You ruined my ham on rye, prepare to die!" Then one of them started chasing me, and now here I am, pinned up against a tree, with a butter knife at my throat.

"You little brat, what am I supposed to eat now?" she growls at me. "I mean I could eat you, but you look a little gross. Seriously, how long has it been since you had a shower?"

"Hey, I've been homeless for the past three months! Cut me some slack." I stare back into her fiery eyes.

"Why? Isn't there a camp for you demigods?" she looks at my, clearly puzzled.

"Yeah, but I can't go there. Everyone there hates me." I look down at the ground.

She slowly lowers her butter knife. "Why?" She has a sad look in her eye like she actually cares.

"I'm a son of Poseidon, so I'm not really...accepted. People stay away from me, scared of my powers." I say slowly.

"Oh, you poor baby!" she pulls me into a hug.

Okay, this is the strangest thing that has EVER happened to me.

She pulls back and smiles at me. "I'm Mackenzie. But you can call me Mac."

"Umm... Weren't you about to eat me?"

This girl must be crazy! What is in those sandwiches?!

"Oh, I've never really liked the taste of human flesh. And my sisters are so mean. I'm desperate to get away from them. Please, take me with you?" she begs.

"What?! You're a monster! How on earth am I supposed to trust you? You could kill me at any moment!" I push her away from me but she falls to her knees, hands clasped tightly together.

"Please! I swear on the river Styx I won't kill you! Please take me with you!" she looks up at me with her big purple, pleading, eyes.

Well, she did swear... No! She's a monster! But, I mean...

*sigh* "...Fine."

She jumps up and pulls me in for another hug. "Thank you thank you thank you!"

Two weeks later

"Mac!" I duck under the fist flying towards me and roll to the left. "Mac, I could really use some help here!"

I throw my elbow into the back of the cyclops' knee. He buckles under the impact and falls on his face. Quickly I jump on his back and Mac throws my sword towards me. Catching Riptide I swing it down, stabbing it through the cyclops' back. He burst into dust, covering my ripped up and worn down jeans in the shiny remains.

Standing up, I dust myself off and see Mac lying on the ground.

"Mac? Are you okay?" I make my way over to her and help her get to her feet.

"Yeah, I'm okay. I think." she smiles softly at me.

"Are you sure? You have a pretty bad bruise on your head." I reach up and graze the purple mark forming above her left eye. She winches and leans away from my touch.

"Yeah, I'm sure." she looks down at her feet.

I shrug my shoulders. "Okay, if you say so."

Three hours later

"Percy!"

I wake up in the dead of night.

Where's Mac?

"Percy, please! Help me!"

"Mac! Is that you?" I call out, getting to my feet. I look around our small camp and see signs of a struggle. Macs sleeping bag is completely torn in half. Our food is thrown everywhere.

What is going on?

"Mac! Where are you?!"

"Percy! I'm over here! Hurry!"

I take off running in the direction of her voice. Seeing a campfire up ahead, I sprint towards the light.

"Mac!? Ma-"

I come to a stop just before running into a sword pointed at my chest.

"Percy Jackson. Welcome back."
