Chapter 10
Draco had always slightly liked Hermione although he would never admit it. Throughout there first few years Draco had constantly insulted Hermione trying to make sure that she, of all people, would never find out. However, around the beginning of their fourth year Draco had tried to put all off that behind him, telling Hermione how he felt. She didn't take the news as well as he liked, but then he had been awfully mean to her. She was just glad that he was being nice for one trying to make up for all the horrible things he had done and said over the years.
Eventually, much to Ron's annoyance, they had become friends. Although Draco hinted that he wanted more, Hermione wasn't interested. She hadn't forgotten the things he had said to her.
Draco didn't know what had made her change her mind, but there they were sat together, on a date, in the Three Broomsticks. Seeing her smile at him, laugh at his jokes. He felt great and the luckiest guy alive. 'Why Weasley had ever let her go?' he thought to himself.
Hermione had never felt worse. This wasn't the kind of thing that she did. Using Draco to get back at Ron. She felt just as bad as she had tried to make Ron. At least he couldn't stop staring at the two of them. Draco was actually a really great guy, although she couldn't see it working out, especially as she as still in love with Ron.
She really hoped that he would come over. Apologise to her and they would ride off together into the sunset. Ok, that was a stupid fairytale fantasy that would never happen. But all Hermione wanted was for them to be together again. Like it used to be. When life was simple and perfect.
'Hermione?' Draco asked. Hermione snapped back into life realising that she had been day dreaming and staring into space.
'Sorry.' Hermione replied taking a sip of her butter beer.
'Are you sure you're alright?' He asked her, looking concerned.
'I can't do this anymore Draco.' She said starting to cry.
'Do what?'
Hermione didn't want to upset him, but she couldn't lead him on like this.
'I still love Ron, I'm sorry.' Draco looked upset but it was better that he knew now.
'It's ok,' he replied ' I understand.'
And with that he stood up and left. Hermione knew that she was probably better off alone. That it was better she had told him, but she still couldn't stop herself from crying.
She could feel someone standing above her.
The person sat down.
'What did he do to you?' Ron asked, taking Hermione's hand across the table.
'Nothing,' Hermione sobbed 'I just made a stupid mistake.'
'So you're not seeing him?'
'No, of course not. I still love you Ron. I love your goofy smile, your red hair, your freckles, the way you laugh, the way you make me feel, they way...'
Hermione was cut off by his lips against hers. She pulled back smiling.
'Sometimes you know exactly what to say.' She said laughing at him.
'Sometimes you just don't know when to stop talking.' Ron laughed back.
'I'm kidding.' he said, seeing the look on her face.
'What about you and Lavender?' Hermione asked.
'Wasn't working out.'
'How come?'
'I'm in love with someone else.' He said teasingly.
'Who?' Hermione asked playing along.
'I'm afraid I can't tell you that.' He grinned.
'Ow.' He pretended to cry as Hermione playfully punched him.
'I really do hate you Ronald Weasley,' Hermione said. 'But that's also the reason why I love you.'
