The walk through the wilderness was awful for both Crimson and Serena. Crimson never got enough to eat and Serena had never done something as physically demanding as the walk across half of Pyrrha.
"The only way to make this go faster is if I could fly." Crimson told Serena for at least the seventh time.
"Fine, then carry me mighty dragon." She said in a worn out voice.
"Not a bad idea." Crimson said, happy for the quiet.
Then, a branch snapped somewhere to the pair's left.
"What was that?" Crimson said in alarm.
He instantly changed into his normal deadly dragon self.
The alarm was for nothing as a deer popped out of the brush. Crimson happily ate it.
Then out of nowhere, a predator jumped onto Crimson, then quickly jumped off due to burnt claws. Another joined him, then three more.
Crimson slipped the ring off and handed it to Serena, who quickly disappeared.
All five predators pulled out spears with ice wing spikes for spear tips.
"Well, that's new." Crimson said starting at the new spears.
One lunged at him, spear raised high. Crimson ducked under the blow just in time to see another stab at his leg. Crimson wiped his tail at the predator, and it was launched into the woods.
Another predator threw its spear, but missed. Crimson then sized the screaming predator, then threw it at another predator. It was impaled by the spear the predator was holding and soon became a predator popsicle.
He breathed fire at a predator, then turned away. Then only one predator had a spear. Crimson clawed the unarmed predator's throat. It screamed and soon died.
The last predator hissed at Crimson. He ran under Crimson hopelessly, but he swatted the predator into a tree, as he did, he heard a snap.
"Well that's-" Crimson was interrupted by the predator he threw into the woods jumping at him, screeching a high pitched cry. Then, as if something interrupted its jump, it fell strait down. It's spear floated by its stunned body, then the spear stabbed into the predator, and it quickly froze to death.
Serena materialized above the now chunk of ice.
"Well," said Serena, staring down at her kill. "Now we're even."
"Actually, I saved you twice, so you still owe me one." Crimson replied.
"When was the second time?" She asked, looking puzzled.
"Once when I got you out of the holding room, again as I jumped out of the palace." Crimson replied.
"Okay fine, I still owe you one." Serena admitted.
"We still need to keep moving, that probably isn't the only hunting party they'll send after us." Crimson said, as he returned to scavenger form. "Now hop on so we can actually get a mile in today."
Serena hopped on Crimson's back in what Serena called 'a piggyback ride.'
The only part of the phrase that made sense was back.
As she jumped onto his back, Crimson nearly fell over. It's not that Serena was to heavy for him to carry, but she wasn't much smaller than Crimson's scavenger form, so his center of balance changed a lot.
"Now lets go." She said in a mocking voice.
The day went smoothly from there on. Crimson easily made ten miles, and as night fell, he and Serena made camp within sight of the bright glow of the city. The night was peaceful and quiet, until a scavenger bird flew over the clearing, shining a bright light on the two. Luckily, Crimson had been in scavenger form when three soldiers came from the bird and took them both to the city.
8 hours later
Crimson awoke to Serena, the president, a doctor, and six guards.
"Hi Cr-, I mean Ethan." Serena said almost blowing his cover right there.
"So this is the one who saved you?" Asked the president, examining Crimson.
"Yup." She said confidently.
"Well then Crimson," the president said with a smirk on his face. "Hope you don't mind if we interrogate you right here."
Crimson then noticed that his hands were cuffed to the bed.
Serena looked astonished by the revelation of him knowing Crimson's identity.
"Father please, he really did save my life. Twice in fact." She said, seemingly afraid for Crimson.
"Fine then, dragon, explain yourself." He said.
"I'll start with the first time I saved her and keep things short." Crimson said quickly. "Me and one of the queens had just got done interrogating your daughter, so now I guess it's payback, but a predator, you know, the super smart pack hunters who live in the rainforest. Well one of them convinced the queen to stop the interrogation. So I followed it, and it had orders to kill your daughter, so I strode into the room she was kept and took her to my own quarters. Then I went to the council room and tried to talk to the queens about it, but I was chased and fled the castle." Crimson said.
"By jumping out the side of it!" Serena yelled.
"You're welcome for saving your life!" Crimson yelled.
"Please do continue." The president said.
"Then we walked here, but got attacked by predators." Crimson concluded.
"Even though you saved my daughter's life twice, you killed at least two hundred humans." The president said calmly.
"Father, this is the only chance for peace we have." Serena pleaded.
"He has been exiled by his own kind, how can he bring peace?" The president replied.
"I was not exiled, thank you very much. I ran away. Most dragons probably still respect me." Crimson answered sternly.
"Give him a chance father." Serena begged, almost crying.
Why is she being so emotional? She seems to care a lot. Yet so do I it seems. I saved her life twice. Crimson thought to himself.
"Fine, if this works, then there is peace. If not, then at least you will be dead." The president said, gesturing to Crimson.
