"Here," Crimson said, throwing his enchanted ring towards Serena. "Put this on and push the golden switch three times."
She did so and completely disappeared.
"Follow me, but don't touch anyone, especially me." Crimson warned.
"Got it." Said a patch of air almost directly under Crimson.
Crimson strolled through the door calmly.
"Pitiful race."Crimson said as he walked out of the prison room, acting as though he had done a thorough interrogation. He began the short walk from the prison section to the high ranking officer section of the palace, and arrived in minutes.
He shut the door anxiously and said, "ring please." Crimson said.
"You mean bracelet," she corrected, materializing in front of him.
"Ring to me, bracelet to you." Crimson said, sliding it onto his claw. "Close your eyes." He ordered, and she obeyed.
He set the ring to scavenger mode.
"Now open." He said.
She opened her eyes. She stared at Crimson in awe and confusion for a moment, then her face turned bright red and she punch Crimson in the face as hard as a scavenger could. It knocked him off his feet, but even when in scavenger form, Crimson had a dragon's strength, so it didn't hurt in the slightest.
"What is wrong with you?" She yelled angrily, after Crimson got up.
"What do you mean, I just saved your life." Crimson said.
"Well you wouldn't have needed to save my life if you wouldn't have KIDNAPPED ME IN THE FIRST PLACE!" She yelled furiously.
"Well, technically I didn't kidnap you." He replied.
"I don't care, YOU'RE GETTING ME OUT!" She yelled again.
"Well, the only way I could do that is if you answered my questions." Crimson replied calmly.
"Fine." She said not quite as angrily. "Shoot."
"When that dragon I was with asked you about why the scavengers suddenly declared war, you said we struck first." Crimson inquired.
"Because you did." She said as though she were talking to a dragonet.
"Well, I don't remember it in the news scrolls, so did the dragons do or say anything in particular?" Crimson asked.
"Well they weren't normal, that's for sure." She answered. "They seemed uncoordinated, their wings flailed and they crashed a lot. One got into the capital building while I was there. It was incredibly agile, more so than any dragon I've seen so far."
"Did they say anything?" Crimson asked.
"Yes, actually. One said 'the war has begun." She replied.
"In your language?" Crimson inquired.
Serena nodded.
"Well that makes no sense. We didn't know your language until just recently." Crimson said.
"So then who attacked us?" Asked Serena.
"That's the question." Crimson replied.
"Stay here, and don't try anything."
Crimson walked out the door and left Serena alone, dumbfounded.
Crimson ran to the queens' throne room, ducking and dodging past dragons and predators alike.
He finally made it to the throne room and walked in on a meeting between the predators and the queens.
"Crimson." Said clear sight. "We must speak with you. Guards!" She yelled.
Two mud wings came through the door and tackled Crimson. Crimson beat his massive wings to get his balance. One mud wing lunged at him, but Crimson kicked her away. The other attacked just after, but Crimson wrapped his tail around the mud wing's neck. He leaped off the ground as the mud wing struggled for control. Then Crimson threw the mud wing who he had by the neck into the other one.
He deactivated the fire protection enchantment on his ring and burst out the door.
"Stop him." Said Ruby as the queens ran after Crimson. He leaped against into the air that the hallway provided.
One ice wing tried to jump up into Crimson, but Crimson clawed him with his back right talon. The ice wing fell to the ground, screaming and clutching his scorched face in agony.
Crimson got to his room unopposed by the terrified dragons that witnessed the maiming of the ice wing. Crimson once again activated his fire protection once he got inside.
"We need to go, now." Crimson said to a surprised Serena.
"Why?" She asked. Crimson didn't answer.
He picked her up in his talons, activated the invisibility in his ring and rammed into the wall as it crumbled and Crimson found himself in free fall off the mountain that the palace sat on. He opened his wings and stabilized himself. No sooner than he did, three arrows pierced his left wing. He lost control and tumbled to the ground.
Serena screamed as they spiraled toward the ground.
"Shut up, I'm trying to concentrate." Crimson yelled.
He spotted a lake within his landing area and used his good wing to get himself over it.
"Can you swim." Crimson yelled.
She didn't have time to answer. They hit the lake with a huge splash. The impact knocked the air from Crimson's lungs. He opened his talons to allow Serena to swim to the surface.
Crimson was barely able to get to the surface himself without passing out. He got his breath back, turned visible again, then swam to shore. Serena followed.
"You okay?" Crimson asked.
"I'm fine." She replied, "but you aren't." She said gesturing to my wing.
"Oh, I have an idea." Crimson said.
He set his ring to scavenger mode.
"There, now my wing doesn't hurt, and we'll be harder to spot." Crimson said, felling proud of himself.
"Yeah, but that doesn't help us get to safety." Serena replied. "Unless." She paused.
"Unless what!" Crimson asked impatiently.
"Unless we go back to the human city." She replied.
"That will work, until they find out who I AM!" Crimson yelled.
"If we explain, my dad could help us find whoever started the war." She replied.
"No scavenger, I mean human, in their right mind would forgive me for all the lives I've taken." He replied.
"Yes they will. I'm not going to let anything happen to you." She said smiling.
"Well, there's still the problem of getting there." Crimson said.
