His Best Girl: Her Secret Legacy-Part 1

Prologue

Setting: SHIELD H. Q.-December 26,1954...

"Come on," Peggy says pulling the little girl by the hand, "you mustn't drag your feet; we have to hurry."

"I'm scared," the child says as Peggy quickens her steps

"Don't be," Peggy says softly, "I promise you'll be alright; I will come and get you as soon as it's safe."

"Do you promise?" The girl asks holding Peggy's hand and her toy shield in the other, looking up at Peggy as they stepped into the elevator

"I wouldn't leave my best girl behind," Peggy says lost in thought when the doors open with a ding

"..." the girl goes quiet as they step out of the elevator and into the secret room that only the founders of S. H. I. E. L. D. know exist within the building

"You sure you wanna do this Margaret?" Comes a man's worried voice as he approaches them in the door way, "I still haven't tested it yet."

"Your the most brilliant mind I know Howard," Peggy says, "I have full confidence that your invention will keep her safe."

"Fine," he says with a sigh, "but we better hurry; who knows how long we've got before they figure out this place exists and come lurking."

"I'd say not long enough," comes a menacing voice

"Pierce," Peggy says, "Go with uncle Howard," she says with a firm voice as she lets go of the girl's hand

"!" The girl runs over to & grabs Howard's hand

"I'll hold him off," Peggy says

Peggy pulls out her gun and readies to shoot while Howard places the girl in a large metal containment and closes the windowed door. Howard rushes over to the controls and presses a button while silently praying that it works; to his amazement-just as Peggy fires her gun-his invention seems to work successfully for the most part. The girl was put to sleep, Howard hurries over to check on her-she was alive-she was breathing, it really worked. Some months later; once pierce was place in a S. H. I. E. L. D. holding cell, Peggy kept her word and went with Howard to get the girl...

"Um..." Howard starts pressing the button over and over

"..." Peggy scowls at him

"I warned you that I hadn't tested yet right?" He asks nervously

"HOWARD STARK you get her out of there!" Peggy snaps

"I'm trying," he says panicking, "I mean I will," he rephrases, "I promise you Peggy, I won't rest till I find Cap, and get her out."
