*the picture above is of the Howling Commando & Peggy, but I'm using it as a representation for how many of Carter's gang is still living*
*don't play song till story says*
Setting: July 4, 2010; Carter and Ricky are spending the day with the last of their gang, "the Anti-Howlers" in Ricky's apartment...
I hate Independence Day; just another reminder of him and of what I could've had, I'm proud of my old man...but I'm bitter towards him as well. Ricky, Charlie, and Steve are all sitting around chatting about their way back when; laughing and telling stories about memories that I'm not apart of. So I'm left to sulk in the bitter-sweetness that I feel towards my so called father. I visit with mother everyday for a few hours; just not today, not when I know what day it is and what it means to her. It's the one day I hate singing my favorite song, but that never stopped the guys from always doing it for me and making me sing the chorus lines.
"Who's strong and brave, here to save the American way?" Steve belts out
"Who vows to fight like a man for what's right night and day?" Charlie follows
"Who will campaign door-to-door for America," Ricky bellows
"Carry the flag shore to shore for America," steve sings
"From Hoboken to Spokane," Charlie sings
"The star spangled man with a plan!" Ricky shouts
"We can't ignore there's a threat and a war we must win," steve goes on
"Who'll hang the noose on the goose-stepping goons from Berlin?" Charlie continues
"Who will redeem, head the call for America," Ricky sings
"Who'll rise or fall, give his all for America," Steve
"Who's here to prove that we can?" Charlie
"The star spangled man with a plan!" Ricky
"Stalwart and steady and true," the three belt out together
"See how this guy can shoot, we tell ya, there's no substitute!" I sing rolling my eyes
"Forceful and ready to defend the..." Steve sings before becoming out of breath
"Red, White, and Blue!" Charlie finishes for him
"Who'll give the Axis the sack, and is smart as a fox?" Ricky
"Far as an eagle will soar," I sing
Who's making Adolph afraid to step out of his box?" The three sing
"He knows what we're fighting for!" I sing
"Who waked the giant that napped in America?" The three sing
"We know it's no-one but Captain America," I sing annoyed
"Who'll finish what they began?" Steve
"Who'll kick the kraits back to Japan?" Charlie
"The star spangled man with a plan!" Ricky
"Who's strong and brave here to save the American way?!" We all finish the song
"Just like old times hey Queen?" Ricky says
"Ya sure..." I say
"Hey..." he starts
*play song now*
"In Flanders fields the poppies blow," I sing, "between the crosses, row on row, that mark our place, and in the sky, the larks, still bravely singing fly, scare heard amid the guns below. We are the dead; short days ago. We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, loved and were loved, and now we lie-in Flanders fields. Take up your quarrel with the foe! To you from failing hands we throw, the torch; be yours to hold it high! If ye break faith with s who die, we shall not sleep, though poppies grow, in Flanders fields."
