Chapter 2
Sitting in the cell I am waiting for the alpha to arrive. Hugging my knees tightly to my chest, I watch Grace crawl around playing in the dirt obliviously to the situation we are in. My stomach is growling but I pay no attention to it, because fear is what is controlling me at the moment. What are they going to do when they arrive? Will they kill me? Will they kill Grace? I would die for Grace if it meant that she was safe with food and shelter. I didn’t believe in love. I knew it didn’t exist. I do love Grace but I am hurting her with this life I have created for us.
Grace doesn’t look as bad as I do. She is slightly small for her age and is a bit pale for a werewolf. She brown curls frame her face and bounce when she crawls. Her big brown eyes are bright with wonder, yet hesitant at the same time. She has gone through so much and seen things a child should never have to see in their life, but my little Grace has. Yet she can still smile and enjoy herself as a child should.
“Ma ma ma,” She giggles crawling to me. “Up up.” She raises her hand for me to pick her up. I look to see one of my guards watching us with a small smile on his face. I pick Grace up and place her on my chest as she snuggles into my shoulder.
“Mum ma.” She places her small hand on my face making the corners of my mouth turn up.
“Yeah baby girl Mums here. Mums here.” I kiss her forehead and put her back down when she starts to wriggle out of my arms. I pull my knees back into my chest and rest my chin on them.
“Cute kid.” I don’t answer out of fear of him coming in and messing around with us. I just continue to stare at my child who is drawing in the dust and dirt that is on the floor. I hear the door bang open as feet come storming in. My fear is becoming overwhelming, that I grab Grace into my chest and cower into the dark corner of my cell.
“Where is the rogue that was stealing from my pack?” The alpha's voice booms causing me to whimper pulling Grace closer to me. My body is shaking as flashback of Derek raising his fist at me begin to surface.
“She is in the cell alpha.” The guard says as my cell door slams open bringing in a very angry and pissed off alpha. I knew this was my end, so I started kissing Grace’s forehead whispering over and over again that I loved her. I know I looked pathetic rocking back and forth, shaking in fear, trying to convey how much I loved my daughter.
“Come out of the dark, so I can see who was stealing from me.” I stay where I am and I watch as he flicks his fingers forward as Jason comes back in and drags me from the corner I was hiding in. I watch the alpha raise his hand but the moment he sees me on my knees clutching Grace tightly to me his face softens and he drops his hand.
“Is this a joke?” He looks at Jason with disgust and anger.
“I caught her stealing food from us.” Jason challenges while the alpha growls at him.
“Look at her. She is a young mother, does she look like she was going to attack us?” The alpha raises an eyebrow at him and Jason shakes his head. “Get out of my sight.” He growls as Jason all but runs out of the room. There is silence around us, but you could cut the tension with a knife. I watch the alpha drop to my eye level and reach out for me. I flinch away from him and start to scramble back.
“Please don’t hurt her. Please. You can kill me, but please don’t hurt her.” I sob into Grace’s hair who is quiet looking at me with her big brown eyes. Her eyes were questioning what was wrong and I shook my head at her. I didn’t look at the alpha again as I had all my focus on Grace telling her how much I love her with my eyes.
“I am not going to hurt you or your child. How about you tell me your names.” I sit in silence. Silence is always the best, if they didn’t get a reaction out of you they would lose interest and move on. I learnt this a long time ago.
