Chapter 3

Now I have to get ready for work. My best friend Renna is coming by we work together. She’s been my best friend since second grade. She has a daughter who is five years old we got pregnant at the same time. It wasn’t no pregnancy pact we don’t plan stuff like that it just happened.  Marko lives on the rich side of town. I’m doing my hair. While Renna is doing her nails. “Girl you will never believe what Marko said to me” I said. As I finished curling my hair. “What” she asked?

 “He was like so when you going to give me a boy” I said. She started laughing. “He’s crazy” she said. “I know like dude where do you come from we are the most dysfunctional people why” I said. “Yeah you guys are” Renna said. “How are you and Ray” I asked? “Fine he finally applied to get a job I’m like dude are you serious” I said. “Where does he work now” I asked? “At some bar he says they are looking for new waiters and bartenders they pay well too” she said. “Really where is it” I asked? “East Hills” she said. “East Hills that the area Marko lives” I said.

 “Rich white people girl pay great, we should apply the place is called Triangle” Renna said. “Okay yeah lord know I’m trying to get up out of here so perfect how much do they pay” I asked? “I don’t know but our bills are paid for, for the next three months so it’s good money” she said. “Alright” I said.  We head to work. It’s was okay I work at a hair salon full time and I go to school full time hectic weeks I go through.  When I got off work Renna and I head out to grab something to eat. “Did you study for the test we have” she asked? “Yeah I did, it’s hard” I said. “I know, and Tiffany is always nagging me” she said Tiffany is her five year old daughter. “I put my girls down then I go study because if they are up when I am nothing will get done” I said. “I try to get her down but Ray he has her sleeping with him all day then when I get home she’s up” she said. Then my ringtone of Sweet Dreams by Beyoncé went off. I look at it its Marko.

 “Yes” I said. “Alice is crying she won’t stop she said she wants you” Marko said. I take a deep breathe. “Okay I'll be there in a half an hour” I said. Then hung up. “What’s up” she asked? “Alice is having her little fits” I said.  “Okay go, go handle that I'll go study” Renna said. “Alright I'll text you” I said then got up and paid for half of our meal. Then I headed home to change really quickly into this black thing v- neck cotton made long sleeve shirt and my shoes to uggs.

I am pulling up to the long drive way I roll my window down and hand a card the security. Marko’s family is an interesting family. I have full access. “Precede” the guy said as the gate opened and the valet parked my car. I am greeted in by a house keeper. I walk to the east end of the house that’s where the girls are. “Marko” I said as I’m going up these long flights of stairs. Who in the right mind has a house with seven floors and people that come over only have access to the first two floors? “Marko” I said as I went into his room. “Emeli” he said.

“She’s in their room just lying on her bed” he said. “Alright” I said as I walk out and go to her.  I get to the room Nellie is sleeping. These girls both have their own king size beds and own bathrooms. I look over to Alice’s side. “Momma” she said. “Alice sugar you promised” I said. “I miss you too much” she said as I join her in her bed. We are facing each other. “You’re a big girl” I said. “I just wanted to hear your voice” she said. I smiled she always warms my heart. “You have to be fine without me you’ll make daddy feel bad.” I said. “Okay” she said as she holds my hand. “Just fall asleep you have to spend time with daddy it’s not fair to him if you’re always with me” I said. “Okay” she said. “Momma just lay here with me” she said as she moved her hair out her face. “Okay sugar” I said. She put her little arm around me the best she could. I just laid their till she fell asleep. I slip out her bed and go to Marko’s room.

”she’s asleep” I said. “Thank you” he said. “Welcome, now I need to ask you a few things” I said. “Shoot” he said. “I was wondering if you could take temporary custody of the girls, I want to get my own place and I would need to work more and focus on school, I trust you with the girls and your house may have some crazy things going on but the girls are never on the west end so I’m okay with that” I said. “Sure, more time with the girls for me” he said. “Alright thank you so much” I said. “You okay” Marko asked? “Yeah, why wouldn’t I be” I asked? “Just asking you don’t seem like my Emeli” he said. “Oh trust me your Emeli is here” I said as I smirked.  His phone vibrated.

“My dad wants to see you he’s in his office” Marko said with a weird look on his face. “On the west end” I asked? With curiosity and anxiousness in my voice.” yeah” he said. “I should come with you” he said. “No, I can go” I said. Then walked out his room. I always heard about the west end but never been. Its where is Father does his dirty business, his father is a very dangerous man. Inside the office before I walk in I hear talking there are two body guards outside the doors. “You messed with my money, you think I don’t know” Messeco asked as he’s pointing a gun at some guy. “I should shot your brains out right now” he said then I walked in. “Emeli my dear” Messeco said as he puts his gun behind his back. The room is filled with men that are big and strong. “Hello Messeco” I said as I’m stand kind of behind the guy he was pointing the gun at. What did I walk into? “Emeli what would you do if someone messed with your money what would you do to them” he asked? I looked around. “You’re asking me” I asked? “Yes dearest” he said. “I – I probably would forgive them and make sure it doesn’t happen again” I said then shrugged my shoulders.

“Awh she’s sweet, isn’t she sweet” Messeco asked the guy around us they all agreed with him and smiled just like he did. “Hold on fellas I’m going to talk to her in the chambers” he said as we walk to the office on the other side. “Emeli my darling” he said. “Yes” I said. “When are you and my son going to get married” he asked? I smiled. This guy is funny. “He has to straighten out a few things before that would ever happen” I said. “Like what” he asked?

 “Ugh, relationship things” I said. Lying I couldn’t tell him because you want your son to take over your business and that is a dangerous game to play and I’m not about that life and my girls would never be in a family situation like that. He smiles at me.

“I see, well my darling grandchildren are here” he said. “Yes, they’ll be here more often I’m giving Marko temporary custody so I can save up money to buy a place” I said. “Oh darling if you need money to buy a place we will give it to you” he said. “No, no, no I’m grateful for the money I already get from you guys I want earn it myself” I said. ”okay, well you know if you ever need anything Messeco will take care of it” he said. “Yes I do” I said.

“Wonderful well I have a matter to take care of” he said as he gets up from his chair. We walk back into the room. “Guys say bye to Emeli” Messeco said. “Bye Emeli” the guys said. “Jeff make sure she get out the house safely, give her the black 2013 Lexus please” Messeco said then winked at me. Jeff and I were walking out the room.

 “She is such a sweet girl, to bad I don’t have her sweet heart” Messeco said then pulled the trigger. All I heard was two shots go off. He killed him. “Get rid of him, make sure you don’t make a mess in my office my wife just redid it” Messeco said as he leaves the room.
