The already exhausted boy ran after Estelle to see where she was going and he noticed fireflies in the sky guiding him to where she went. He wondered what she was hiding or what she was doing. Out of breath he slowed down and paced himself so that he didnt completely tire himself out. Jay then kept a steady speed and kept low in the bushes so he could hide from her and see what Estelle was up to. Then Jay saw a glow in a gap of where a bush should've been so he crouched just beside the bush and walked as quietly as he could.
Jay was one tree away from Estelle and could clearly make out something was glowing a bright yellow colour and it looked like she now had a new piece of jewellery round her wrist. It was a little charm bracelet but there was only one charm and all the others were nowhere to be seen. Jay heard footsteps coming right up to him and then he panicked, ran and made it back by just a split second to the campfire. His mind was overflowing with all these ideas of what she was doing. Magic? Stealing? Mind games?
Jay wanted to ask her but was too shy and decided to talk about something else. "So where are you from?" Said Jay trying to be normal even though he couldnt because of what he had found out. "Oh I'm from Lunisa. My town got burned down by the other village people and thats when I stumbled upon this island." She confessed looking down at her sand covered feet and a teardrop running down her rosy bright red cheeks. Jay leaned his arm over her shoulder and whispered "Lets help each other get back to our homes. I will always remember you Estelle". "I will always remember you Jay" she snuffled back.
Jay had forgotten all about that magical glow earlier and instead helped Estelle feel happy and comforted her. They both stood up and walked back into the forest to collect some more firewood because it was starting to turn pitch black and they both felt freezing. "It's almost pitch black and we still dont have firewood. We need to split up and then we can cover more ground Estelle. Otherwise we might not get any logs for the fire." He quickly ran off in one direction with Estelle running the opposite way. It had almost been 15 minutes and both of them still had no wood. It was getting darker by the minute.
But then, Jay could see something glowing near one of the ivy bushes. He sprinted to the glow and saw it was a stone with a carving on it. Jay's cold hands picked up the stone and ran back to the logfire picking up wood as he walked along. He tightly clenched the stone so it wouldnt fall or slip from his hand. Jay had millions of thoughts running through his head as he knew Estelle was involved. What was she hiding from him? As he arrived back at the logfire he saw Estelle perched on the end of a log with her back towards Jay as if she was hiding something. "Hi Estelle. I got some more wood did you get any?" Jay quizzed. Estelle stuttered "e-erm well i couldnt find anything in my area. Must've been because of how dark it is!". "Yeah." Said Jay concerned.
Estelle tucked something into a hidden pocket in her skirt secretively and turned to smile at Jay. "I am feeling sleepy. Night Jay!" And with that she was fast asleep.
