i looked around the bland apartment; empty other than all the boxes strung across the floor and the furniture. i sighed as i picked up a box and set it on the counter. i cut open the take holding it shut with a box knife, and began unpacking plates and bowls and other essential items for my new kitchen.

after finishing the boxes for the kitchen, i decided i would unpack the boxes for my bedroom and my bathroom. i grabbed two boxes filled with my bedroom essentials and started my journey up the 8-step stairway.

i saw a door at the end of the rather short hallway upstairs, and pushed it open with my hip. i walked in and my eyes scanned a large room with a bed, desk, and my personal favorite part: a bay window. i sat the boxes down on my bed and ran over to sit in the bay window. i looked over the city of columbus, ohio, and realized how happy i was to be here.

i took a step back and took a look at the fairy lights i had just strung across the head board of my bed. i smiled in satisfaction and plopped down onto the bed, which was newly made with plain white sheets. i looked at my macbook that was laying at the foot of my bed before reaching down to grab it. i searched for local coffee shops, because that's what i was mostly in need for; coffee.

grabbing my coat, phone, and converse i walked out of my bedroom and down the little stairway and stopped at a barstool at the island to put my shoes on my feet. i finished the last loop in my shoe laces and hopped down. i looked across the room and frowned. i still had a lot of boxes. oh well.

i walked out the door, looking at my feet as i walked. i heard the creak of a door opening as i turned to look over my shoulder. i saw a man-maybe around my age- walking towards me as he typed something on his phone. i couldn't really see his face since he was looking down, but he looked familiar somehow. i shrugged it off and kept walking. i walked down the stairs and walked to the door leading out of the apartment building.

i pushed on the door, but furrowed my eyebrows when it wouldn't open. i sat there pushing and pushing, but it just wouldn't open. i heard a chuckle from beside me and i looked out of the corner of my eye

"you're supposed to push," he said in a matter-of-factly way. i face-palmed myself and i turned to look at him, but my smile faded away and my mouth gaped open.

"no fucking way..."
