"The soldier above all others prays for peace, for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war." -Douglas MacArthur

The school bell rang, urging everyone onto their feet and out the door. I took my time getting up and packing my books because my next class was well...math.

"Ocean Paisley Davis!"A deep voice yelled through the halls. I caught a flash of brown hair and realized who it was. I started rushing through the sea of people, dodging the jocks and passing the nerds' huge backpacks, giggling the entire time.

"Got you, loser!" Suddenly my pack was pulled by the strings and made me stop. Soon, I was trapped into his embrace by hugs.

"J-Jamie get off of me." I said to my best friend, my cheeks getting smushed.

"Aw, why can't a friend say a Happy Early Birthday to his best lady friend?" he queried, killing me more.

"Ugh. You're coming to my house on Sunday right? Mom's making her homemade baked ziti! I know you love that stuff!"

"Definitely. You have the ingredients for our super special off the hook Sunday sundae?"

"Whipped cream, sprinkles, gummy bears, oreos, kit kats and the special sauce." I checked off.

"Sounds great. Well, can't wait to see you then Little-Wave." He squeezed me again and walked off.

I sighed. Jamie was probably the greatest friend ever. Even though he was one of the most popular and handsomest guys at the school, he still was always there for me, during my childhood and even now.

I scampered into my math class and slid into my seat next to the famous football star, Matt, just before the bell rang. I looked up and saw the substitute teacher, Ms.Hills, at the desk. Ms. Becky wasn't here today? Man..she was the one who I liked the most.

"Okay kids, your teacher wrote here to work on problems 26-45 on the packet of  improper integrals she gave to you last week, so get cracking!" she said croakily as she sat back down at the desk.

I grabbed my thick homework and started to pen down the problems. A cold arm suddenly wrapped around my shoulders and I squealed.

"What the-"

"Hey sweetheart," Matt said as he pulled me closer.

"Get off of me, Matt," I said, pulling away, "Are you serious? Don't you have a girlfriend?"

"If you want to call her that. She's a one time thing to me. She just wants to date. Who cares about her anyway, I have my eyes on someone else."

Did he literally just say that?

"Um. Okay Matt." I said, backing farther away. "Need help with math again?"

"Um. Actually, I do. Could you help me?"

"Sorry Matt, I'm tutoring--" I glanced across the room looking for someone who seemed to be needing help, "Laura! Yeah, um, I have to help her understand this stuff. Heh." I lie as I walk over to Laura.

"Play along." I whisper to her.

"Um. You uh multiply x with x to make 2x." Laura giggled. We were not even learning that.

Matt glared over at us, then moved on to his next prey of the day.

"Sorry, it's actually x to the power of 2. Good try though." I smiled, pretending to write things on my paper.

A half hour went by and the bell rang.

We made it through the period without Matt questioning us.

"Onto lunch!" I said to myself as I walked out of the room.
