I shook the mans hand, noticing how firm his grip was. Just then, there was a loud thump from the hallway, followed by a shriek and a small series of soft thuds.
"That must be Brigette." Stated Jace, not moving from his position on the couch.
Just as he finished speaking a girl about my age stumbled into the room, brushing her bangs out of her eyes. She saw me and straightened, grinning from ear to ear.
"Hey! Im Brigette! Spelled without a D. Don't make that mistake." She walked over, skipping the handshake and going straight to a hug.
"Oh! Um... hey." I said, awkwardly letting her hug me.
"New rarity?" she asked, her gaze flicking back and forth between Jace And Jonh millard, Mr. Millard, Mill, whatever I was supposed to call the dude.
"Indeed. This is Sara, the really powerful one I've been telling you about. I'll tell you something Sara. You were hard to find. Took us almost a year." He stated, grinning at me.
I smiled at him, but not a real smile. I didn't trust the man, something was off about him.
"Well thank the lord you're a girl" Brigette said, turning to me. "all the others are guys. To be honest, I don't think I could stand another, especially if they were extremely powerful. Arrogant little scumbag they'd probably be. But you seem great! Here, I'll show you to your room."
I watched as she fiddled with the tips of her hair. Her long, dark, wavy hair had been loosely braided to the side, hanging over her right shoulder. She looked at me expectantly, her eyes framed with beautiful, dark lashes. But one thing stood out to me, and I immediately blurted it out, not even thinking twice.
"Your eyes are purple."
She laughed. A loud, real laugh, that contained quite a few snorts.
"Yours will be too. At some point. Did you not notice Jace's? Or Mill's?"
"No...wait, mine will be?!"
"Of course! Every rarity has purple eyes. They aren't all the same color of purple, but still purple."
"Oh."
Her eyes weren't just one shade. They started out a light lavender and got darker and darker towards the edges until a deep plum color rimmed her irises.
"So... you wanna see your room? There's an open one right next to mine that you can take."
"I'd be happy to take that room, but I'm not going upstairs until Jace tells me what happened to my parents."
At that Jace slowly sat up, giving me a worried look.
"Sara... maybe we should wait till the morning. You have to be tired after all this."
"No. No way. I went along with all of this today with hardly any explanation!I mean, everything i did today was absolutely insanely stupid! I mean, i got in a stranger's car and drove all the way to the opposite side of the state with him! If you know something about my parents that I don't, then you are going to share it. Right. Now."
"I think Jace may be right, Sara." Said Mill. I had almost forgotten he was there.
"Im telling you right now that I won't go anywhere or do anything you tell me to do until I know. Now spill."
"Goodness gracious. Fine. But you may want to sit down."
I reluctantly sank into a wooden rocking chair, sitting on my hands. Jace ran his fingers through his sandy brown hair, causing it to stick up in the front. He looked up at me, and for the first time I did see the color of his eyes. They were extremely dark, almost black, but not quite. Additionally, there were flecks of lilac that were hard not to notice. How hadn't I realized them before?
"Sara... I went to your house to look for you at first." Jace said, pulling me from my thoughts. "But I wasn't the only one. when I got there, I assumed that your parents would be at work, and that you would soon arrive home from school. It's always scary to come home and find a random boy standing in your living room waiting to kidnap you or however you would put it, but there really wasn't another way at that point. I planned on allowing you to come in, then appearing and trying my best not to scare the crap out of you. which I probably would have failed at..."
"And..." I prompted, getting impatient.
"OK, Ok I'm talkin. Well, your house looked normal enough from the outside, but the inside, well, the inside was a different story... chairs were knocked over, glass shattered all over the floor, and upstairs, well, I found your parents."
"So, they're ok, right? You have them somewhere safe, and you just wanted me to rest before we went to see them, right? Tell me I'm right, tell me they're safe. Please." I was beginning to panic, fearing what he would say next.
"I-I can't do that, Sara. Your parents, they're, well, they're gone."
"Gone? You mean, gone gone?"
"Yes..."
It felt like all the air had been ripped from my lungs. I shot to my feet, stumbling backwards and knocking over the chair in the process. My hands shook, and all I wanted was for him to tell me he was wrong. That he made a mistake, that they were safe.
"No. No no no that's not right. You're joking. This is just a really really cruel joke, right?"
"Sara-"
"No, no i'm fine. i'm alright. I-" I didn't finish. Hot tears were streaming down my cheeks, and I was furiously wiping them away.
"Sara, stop. It's ok to cry." This time it was Brigette, piping up from behind me.
"How?"
"What do you mean?" Jace asked, looking surprised at my question.
"How did they..." I couldn't finish my sentence but he understood.
"Sara do you really want to-"
"Yes."
"They were shot."
"I, I think I want to go to bed now. Im done for today." I said in a shaky voice, breathing deeply.
"Yea. Common, I'll take ya." Brigette put her arm over my shoulder, gently leading me out of the room. We took the stairs because, 'the crappy ole elevator was always breaking down'. Briggete led me down a dimly lit hallway, eventually stopping at one door.
"I'll leave you here. I'm in the next room over if you need anything."
She smiled, walking into her own room as I sank onto the flowered duvet, crying into the fabric.
A/N Ok so I honestly didn't have much inspiration for this chapter other than introducing Brigette. (I have a reason for the odd spelling, not that I'll tell you what it is;) So please let me know any mistakes or things that I could do better! I always want to improve:) So yea, hope this update was alright. I will definitely try to make the next one more interesting. Anyways, thanks for reading ya little wombats! Hope you return for the next chappie;)
