THE BEGINNING

I will be continuing from chapter 11 after this, don't worry. Basically I decided that I wanted the first ten chapters to be one big intro if that makes sense

Gingerbread Man by Melanie Martinez

CHRIS

(This takes place like 3 hours after what happened on the dock)

"Babe?" I mumbled. She was asleep, and she looked so beautiful when she was asleep. She was probably dreaming about what had happened.

I couldn't sleep, I stayed up since we got home from the dock. I revealed myself to her, yet I knew she couldn't let go of the love she had for me. I moved over toward her, placing a kiss to her cheek.

Her nose twitched, as I knew she felt it. I smiled, knowing that I had successfully woken her up.

"Hey," I whispered, placing my hand on her shoulder. "What time is it?" She asked. Her voice was low and cracked every few words, mostly because she was tired.

I shrugged, laying back down on my side of the bed. "I can't sleep," I admitted. "That's the main reason I woke you up."

"It's alright," she whispered, wrapping her arm around my torso. "I don't mind." She didn't say anything after that, and she let her eyes close by themselves and she went to sleep.

I sat up. She didn't move or say anything. She must have already fallen asleep. She had a habit of getting tired all the time.

I made my way downstairs, and I turned on the tv. I saw myself, and Bex, standing there. Bex was covered in the wounds, and I was explaining that we had killed the slasher.

We agreed that we were going to try to be better people, and that we weren't going to kill people. I smirked, knowing that the news and the entire town believed our story.

How could they not? You'd never look at us and assume that we were both insane. I turned off the tv, and the darkness flooded my living room. There were no lights on, nothing.

It was exactly like I felt earlier. I felt pain and love when I tried to kill Bex. I knew I couldn't do it, I knew I wasn't going to let her die.

"Is this what you felt, mom?" I asked the thin air, as if it was going to speak to me. "This is exactly what I felt."

I jumped at the voice, but I knew it was just inside my head. My mothers voice was the one I heard often. There was no medication to stop the woman from taunting me.

"You're not real," I growled. I could almost see the grin on her face. "You're not real," I repeated.

"You know, the night you killed us, what exactly went through your head?" She asked. I didn't know what to say. The only thing I remembered was that night was the night I had completely lost my mind. "I was thinking of the way your blood looked on my knife," I said through gritted teeth. I wasn't going to let the taunting voice get the satisfaction.

"Babe? Who are you talking to?" I hear Bex say, she was worried and she grabbed my shoulders. I jumped slightly at her touch, but it wasn't too bad of a scare.

"I'm sorry. I'm so tired," I said. "Who were you talking to?" She asked again, in that same worried voice as she practically carried me upstairs. "The voices," I admitted. There was no point in lying. I fucked up Bex's brain, she wouldn't even think twice about the words I spoke.

"It's okay, it will be okay," she said as we laid down. "They taunt me," I growled. She didn't say anything to me, and I felt her arm draped around me, and I closed my eyes to fall asleep into another nightmare of my own mind.
