"Evelyn. Evelyn. EVELYN. Stand by my side, love." The warm voice grasped my ice cold hand. The world sparkled in a new light. Brilliant shades of violet, green, and blue consumed the landscape. We were in a meadow. A beautiful secluded serenity enveloped within a forest. I felt secure. Away from the chaos, just myself and a stranger.
He didn't seem like a stranger.
He had a comforting presence about him. I looked up and his eyes caught my gaze.
He was beautiful.
The type of boy you'd read about in books. His gorgeous emerald eyes glittered in the sunshine. The boy smiled, releasing a set of stunning perfect teeeth surrounded by two beautiful dimples. His chocolate curly hair fell perfectly upon his head.
He pulled me closer, and I stopped breathing.
My face was only inches away from his. I carefully studied every perfection, making absolutely sure not to make eye contact with the stranger again.
I was afraid of him, but something about it made me want to be even closer to the boy. Like magnets.
My brain told me I was afraid, but my heart told me I was safe.
"Don't be afraid. I'm here. " He pulled my chin up with his thumb.
I looked him in the eyes, terrified.
"I'll protect you."
-----------------------------------------
My eyes fluttered open, to the all familiar scene of concered bystanders hovering over me.
"Good morning Evelyn! Hope you're feeling alright. You kinda had a spaz attack back there." Louis smiled a crooked smile.
Liam was also there, but so were other faces I hadn't recognized. Next to Liam stood a beautiful girl. Her chocolate hair cascaded down her tanned skin. She had the most beautiful blue eyes I had ever seen. The girl looked at Liam and smiled, taking his hand. She tried to get him to smile, but he just looked at the floor.
My gaze changed directions.
Louis had his arm around what I was assuming was his girlfriend. Her blushed cheeks flashed me a smile as she carressed Louis arm. She was cute. Almost a perfect match for Louis. Something about her just reminded me of a Disney Character.
The last girl in the room stared at me in silence. She had blonde hair and eyes that gave off an aura of indifference. Her plump lips stayed in a line. The girl focused on me, seemingly forming preconceived notions about who I was. She looked awfully familiar, but I just couldn't seem to figure out how.
I was in a cheap motel 6. The room was dark and dirty. The only light eminated from a small candle on the nightstand beside me. A tv sat in in the corner, on top of a dresser cluttered with empty bottles of alcohol. Above the dresser were lopsided pictures of Hollywood clinging to the wall.
One picture caught my eye in particular.
It was a meadow. A heavenly meadow filled with posies and roses. The sun glared at the perfect angle, illuminating the forest. My heart fluttered as I remembered the dream I had just awoken from.
I remembered the angelic boy who had stimulated my nerves. The way we had gravitated towards each other felt like electricity.
But then I remembered it was just a dream. I would never see the beautiful boy that both frightend and comforted me. I craved his touch.
"Evelyn?" Louis snapped me back to reality.
"I'm sorry I--' My voice cracked. I flinched as violent waves of pain encompassed my throat. I felt drained, my vocal cords dry and sore.
"Here, take some water." The girl next to Louis gestured. "I'm Eleanor, by the way, Louis' Girlfriend."
She smiled, placing a kiss upon Louis' cheek.
"I'm Sophia." The girl beside Liam spoke up.
I glanced back at the blonde girl, her stare sill cold. Louis caught me looking at her.
"Sorry about her." Louis pointed towards the direction of the blonde. "She's just been through alot."
"That's Gemma."
Gemma arose from her seat and stormed out the door, slamming it as she left.
The room fell silent.
The pitter patter of rain echoed through the motel, lightning occasionally lighting up the room.
I couldn't bare the silence anymore.
"Thank you. All of you. But I really need to get back to my family. I need to know they're safe." My voice was hoarse, causing my throat to yet again sting.
I thought of Joanie, and my mother, and my sister. How was I supposed to tell them that Layla was gone?
"Not yet, you aren't." Eleanor scowled. "You need to heal. You need a few days to collect yourself."
"But I need t-" I was cut off.
"Dammit Evelyn! You've been unconsious for three days!" Liam hollerd. "You're in no condition to be going out alone. You barely escaped the mall with us!"
Three days? Have I really been dreaming for three fucking days?
My vision began to blur, tears streaming down my face.
"Look I'm sorry I jus-" Liam stuttered.
"She's just exhausted. Let her sleep. It's alot to take in." Eleanor overpowered him. "Let's go. We have work to do in the morning."
Everyone exited the room, in a solemn manner.
Eleanor looked at me one last time. "If you need anything just holler. Louis and I are right next door." She locked the door behind her.
I was crying alone, drenched in fear.
I closed my eyes, hoping to visit my angel. Hoping I'd wake up in the meadow, lying peacefully next to him. Hoping he'd protect me from this hell.
