Chapter 3
Lucas Cross
The first thing that hit me was her eyes. Those brown eyes held my mind captive even after she left.
"What the fuck just happened?" Daniel asked. Daniel Ross was my company's CFO. He was the smartest amongst us all and the biggest scaredy cat. Even in school, he was the only one who never use to take part in all the mischief our group indulged in. Going to MIT and getting triple majors didn't really change his shy personality.
"Did she just threaten to arrest you?" Raul Vaz, my company's M.D asked. Raul was Daniel's twin in every sense of the word bar one. Both of them were worry-wart. Sons of the New York's biggest Bankers, who are arch enemies, their friendship came as a surprise to their parents.
"She can arrest me any time she wants." Nate Replic sighed and his eyes glazed over with lust. Nate started out as a stock broker but when I asked, joined my company as Vice President. Nate is our company's playboy. You will see him with one girl on his arm in the afternoon and a completely different girl in the evening. Nate is a whiz when it comes to money, he made money on the stock market simply by breathing.
I don't know why but Nate's attitude pissed me off.
"Shut up, Nate. Who the hell does she think she is? Storming into my office like this and ordering me to come. As if, I am some kind of a lowly criminal." A growl escaped me. "Call Matt, I am going to go to the Bureau and return the favour."
"What are you thinking?" Nate asked. "Wait a minute, did she say the murder of Senator Hodges? Didn't he die of heart attack?"
"Shit! Hodges was murdered? How?" Raul said, shocked.
"Why?" Dan asked with the same expression- shocked.
"By whom?" Both asked together. See, what I meant by twins?
"Him, of course." Nate snorted, pointing his chin towards me. "Wasn't that the reason behind her visit? And for the rest, we have to ask her."
"But that still doesn't explain why she almost cuffed me and declared me guilty." I said, in a nonchalant manner while my brain revolved around the concept of her having a volcano sized fire in that puny body of hers.
"Heed my advice and take advantage of the situation. If you know what I mean." Nate grinned. "If you are not going to, then let me."
Unable to resist Nate, I grinned at him.
Raul looked at me and then at Nate, and then at me again. He did this five times, sighed and shook his head in a way that said, God bless them.
"Are you two nuts?" Dan wasn't as quiet. "Did you forgot how angry she was and how much passion filled hatred was in her voice?"
Nate winked at me and then looked at Dan.
"Imagine all that passion channelling into lust. God! We would need a fire brigade to put out the fire in the morning." And, he escaped into his fantasies again. "Shit! I need to get laid." He said under his breath.
Dan looked at me and opened his mouth, no doubt ready to start with his lecture which, as a friend, he considers his birth right to deliver at every moment. I cut him off, having no interest in hearing his lecture ever again, after that one time in high school.
"I am not interested in her, before you ask. She might be a little spitfire and, yes, that makes her very attractive but no. I don't think I can ever be in a relationship with a person who I can't tolerate. Neither, for that matter, will I ever want to be in such a cold relationship." I shuddered.
