Chapter 6
“Okay everyone, buckle up.” I said as we settled in my car. Lucas decided to tag along with me and asked his driver to go back to his house. It made sense since we were going to his office afterwards. Not that he knows. According to him, we are going to come back and work from the bureau.
“I still think I should drive.” Lucas gritted out.
“Careful, your teeth will start falling if you grind them so hard.” I said in a sing-song voice.
He cursed under his breath.
I slapped his arm. “I have kids sitting behind. You already taught them a very colourful word. I don’t want you to expand their vocabulary.”
“Sorry.” Lucas murmured but I could see him fighting a smile.
“So, what do you wanna eat?” I asked.
“Pizza.” Aaditya screamed. His voice laced with uncontrolled excitement.
“Pasta.” Amara said in a more reserved fashion.
“Anything.” Lucas just shrugged.
I looked at everyone and then just shrugged. “We can go to the Deli that you love. They have a lot of things. Everyone can have what they want.” I said to the kids. “And it’s close to our house as well.”
I started the car and moved out of the parking lot.
“I don’t wanna go home.” Aaditya whined.
“Well, darling, you don’t have a choice.” I looked at him through the rear view mirror.
“We can sit in your cabin, quietly, or we can go down to Karen and help her.” Amara said in her I’m-a-voice-of-reason tone.
“Karen’s busy. She cannot babysit you every time.” I said. “Besides I am not going to the office afterwards. I have to go somewhere else.” Gosh! When did they become so eager to be in my office. Last time I checked, they hated coming to the office. My eyes narrowed and I looked closely at their oh-so-innocent expressions through the rear view mirror. Something’s up.
“Where?” Lucas asked. When I looked him, his brows came down together, nearly touching each other, his forehead had small lines on it. Oh my word! I have never seen anyone looking so adorable while frowning.
Focus, Shanaya. Focus!
For heaven’s sake, I’m driving a car!
“Don’t worry; you are coming with me as well, SEAL boy.”
“SEAL boy?” Lucas asked shocked. “It’s pathetic. You are not calling me that.”
“Yeah and Spitfire is stupid. You are not calling me that.” I retorted.
“It suits you.” He said in a childish tone. Which, of course, ended with a pout.
How can a guy be so melodramatic?
“How does ‘Spitfire’ suit me?” My jaw is going to start hurting if I clench it for even a minute more.
“Because if something doesn’t go your way, you breathe fire.” He gave me an angelic smile which made me want to park my car and wipe it off his face................ with my fist.
Or my mouth.
Dear mind, would you please put a stop to your inappropriate thoughts. I am trying to work here.
