Chapter 2
"Come on, now, let's have our food and then go to bed. Let's not forget, it is a school night." I said a bit firmly to both of the troublemakers.
Yeah, my cousin and her husband left me their kids in her will, after having full knowledge of my job. Don't get me wrong, I love them with all my heart, but me? Why? Her mother and his father are alive and well but she still gave me this responsibility? I know jack about raising kids, hell, I haven't even been able to keep a plant alive! How on earth am I suppose to raise two kids of same age and filled with so much mischief that makes you question their age and intelligence.
"Maasi, I have play rec-...rek- , no..... res-" Amara trailed off. Her eyebrows drew towards each other and formed a v between her eyes. She had a very cute frown on her face while she concentrated on the word.
"Recital?" I helped her but making it sound like I was questioning her so that she thinks that she was the one who said that word, originally.
"Yeah, a play recital!" She almost jumped in her seat while beaming so brightly that she would have lighted up the whole Las Vegas.
"Yes, maasi. I forgot about that. We have a play and me gonna be a Peter Pan-" Aaditya
"And me gonna be Gretl from the sound of music." Amara said completing her brother's sentence.
"I am going to play the role of Peter Pan," I looked at Aaditya and then I looked at Amara, "and Gretl. Or we are going to play the roles of Peter Pan and Gretl." I corrected them automatically and took their, now empty plate, to the sink. I rinsed them and then placed them in the dish washer. "And that's very interesting. I am so excited for both of you. But do you guys know the stor-" And I was cut, again.
"Uhhhhh, LISTEN." Their excitement brought back the memory of Mehr, me and Siddhanth and how one of us would try to up the other when it came to good news.
"He came out of nowhere, and tried to snatch my gun from me. I turned and lined my back to his front then I smashed the back of my head to his nose, pushed my hips back and then bit his hand. He screamed his head off and released me. I whirled around and took my cuffs out at the same time. Then, I turned him so his back was facing me and the front was smashed against the floor, while he was groaning on his side. I quickly pulled his hands back and cuffed him. 'Mr. Ross, you are under arrest for drug trafficking.'
Then I heard clapping and my examiner came out of the examination room with a big smile and said, 'Singhania, you made a stupid mistake by not checking the corners first, but then you handled your attacker very nicely.' He said that and gave me a pat on my back." I said excitedly.
Today was the start of my field exam in FBI training facility. I was done with my academics exam and now I have a week full of field tests- case exercise, firearms and operational skills. I had just given my mock-case investigation exam and was relaying my success to Mehr and Siddhanth.
"I was so scared, you know, but then everything went off superbly." I said to Mehr and Siddhanth via Skype. I saw their overly glowing face and finally sobered.
"What's up with you two?"
Their smiles widened, which seemed impossible, and then they looked at each other with tenderness.
"I am pregnant." Mehr said.
"She is pregnant." Siddhanth said.
Both of them said it together and the only thing which came out of my mouth was croak.
