I have updated chapter 3 as well so don’t forget to read that before this. Happy reading.
Chapter 4
Shanaya Singhania
Matt stood up from his chair and came around to hug me. Wow! I had completely forgotten about him. He looked exactly like he used to three years ago. No change, nothing that would indicate that he was in his thirties now.
Matt and I first met in Columbia University, where we both use to study. He was my senior and we met through common friends. We hit it off right away. In his last year he asked me out but I declined. I was not interested in a relationship at that moment. After our graduation, I went to FBI Academy and he shifted to Seattle.
Three years ago, I met him in Chicago- where I was based. He was working for the District Attorney’s office back then. Clearly, he changed his office again.
“It’s so nice to see you.” I said when he released me.
“I know. How are you? And how are Mehr and Siddhanth?” he asked though innocently, pain receptors blasted in my chest.
I ignored his question and looked somewhere else. “Let’s begin with the interrogation. We’ll chat later.”
My gaze automatically locked on Lucas Cross. Lord, it should be illegal to look so good. Brown hair, so silky it made my hand itch to touch it. White, pale face so smooth it makes me want to run the back of my hand down his cheek. His eyes were the freshest green I had ever seen. It reminds me of the grass, early in the morning, sprinkled with water. Fresh. Clean. Beautiful. His lips... His lips makes me want to just grab him and kiss the daylights out of him.
Wait. What?
No. No. NO. I did not just think that. I cannot think about kissing him though his bulging muscles assure me that being in his arms would feel like the most protected and cherished person on earth.
No, God no! Snap out of it. That guy is nothing but trouble, my inner voice said. He is the main suspect for the Senator’s murder, right now. My inner voice reminded me.
That thought sobered me.
“Yes, of course.” Matt said and went around the table to his chair.
I opened Cross’ file. I had his full history in front of me. Where he was born, which school he went, which college he went, when did he join SEAL, when he went to Afghanistan, when he came back, when he started his company, where he lives, his enemies and a video on my tablet of his and Senator’s fight.
Well, let the interrogation begin.
“Mr. Cross, I am Special Agent Shanaya Singhania, lead investigator in this case. I remind you that our conversation, right at this moment, is being recorded so I suggest you speak only the truth. Now, I hope you know why you are here?”
“Yes. You think that I killed Senator Hodges. ” He said with a bored expression on his face.
“You are innocent?” I asked him with a hint of sarcasm in my voice.
“Damn straight, I am.” This time his eyes were blazing and the green looked like an emerald.
“Then you don’t mind answering some question in order to prove your innocence?”
“Shoot.”
Caught the bait, didn’t you Jackass?
“When was the first time you met Senator Hodges?” I asked.
“Five years ago, he had asked me to come to his office. He recommended us to the Pentagon and we got our first U.S government contract because of him.”
