As we were walking, my heart was beating fast. One step gave me load of determination and hope, while the other step took that all away and gave me second thoughts.
We saw Sam in his office, he seemed stressed too. "I'll tell them I spotted someone trying to run away...Good luck" he said. The hall was vast, all white as usual. It had three squares in front of each other. Each square represented a level. It was glowing, green rays emitting through.
"These rays turn red if you pass without-" Sam said before he got interrupted by Parker, "Will it have some kind of a...beeping sound?" Parker said. "Yes, indeed. The loud sirens can even be heard in the west wing" Sam replied.
Parker, Lucas and I all crossed the first level easily, then we hid in the cabe. We were all squished into a very small dark room. Parker and I stood at the very back while Lucas stood in front of the door. The door wasn't entirely closed, so we could all peek to see the aliens.
They walked in front of us, "...I couldn't see their faces but..." I heard Sam say as his voice was gradually fading. I sighed, I felt Parker's fingers next to mine as we slowly interlocked our fingers. "They opened the door!!" Lucas said, "We need to go" he said as he opened the door. "Lucas wait!" I whispered but unfortunately I was too late.
The aliens were standing in front of the door of level one. Lucas ran towards level two's door, we had 10 seconds left. The aliens saw us and started following us, "Run!" Parker shouted.
We crossed level two and we were heading to level three, I held sam's key card with my shaky hand. Aliens were few meters away, "Come on!" Parker said as the key card fumbled in my trembling hands.
I opened level's three door, we ran inside. Parker was looking for the button that is supposed to be located next to the door of this level. Lucas and I saw large oval spaceship on the ground, it was huge. The ceiling of level 3 was 100 meters high. We got in and waited for Parker to follow, while the aliens were at the door of level two. Parker pressed the button and rushed as the spaceship began to rise.
The spaceship was at the very end of the room, by that time aliens reached us, it was 5 meters high. Parker hopped as he held on to the spaceship, I saw the aliens carrying enormous guns that was probably double their size. We didn't know they even had guns, I held parker's hand and started pulling him up with the help of Lucas. Aliens pointed the gun at us, then was the time were I heard Parker's loudest scream.
Parker was shot...in the back. "Parker" I shouted, my eyes started tearing up as I felt a burden on my chest keeping me from breathing. I pulled him upward, he laid with his head on my thigh. The spaceship had 30 more seconds to get out from the hole on the ceiling. I looked at Parker as he started sweating and breathing quickly. "Parker...Parker...stay with me. Parker we made it" I said as I was slightly slapping his cheek.
I shouted loudly... He started breathing faster and faster. I look at his back to see the wound, and here is where I just stared in shock. His hands were starting to get cold, his lips started getting dry. "Parker we made it...Parker please please" I said.
I pressed on his wound to stop it from bleeding, Parker was trembling. "Olivia... I'm sorry" he said. His was shaking, "No...I'm sorry...Parker" I said crying, I didn't care anymore about moving back, if Parker is with me that's all I need. I was trying to hold back my tears trying not to worry him, but I couldn't.
I felt scared, not knowing whether Parker will make it. All I thought about was killing those abhorrent rats. I got up and walked to jump at them. I felt reckless, Lucas grabbed my arm. He was crying too silently. I looked back at Parker , "Parker you can't do this to me!" I shouted, "Parker please you're all I have" I continued. The spaceship needed 10 more second to reach the opening.
I fell on my knees and released my anger as I bumped my fist on the cold floor. I felt listless, with absolutely no purpose to live. I felt dizzy, everything was getting blurry...
