My name is Athena Carson and my life has been a whirlwind. Let me explain a few things. I work for the FBI in their Undercover Youth Program. It is basically the same as the regular FBI but it's all people under the age of 23. Most of us were recruited at the start of high school. I was one of those kids. Unfortunately, I am only 17, so when my dad decided to move us from Washington DC to Los Angeles California, I was extremely frustrated.
Now, it's the day of the move and we are driving our car there while the movers take the rest of the stuff. My dad made the decision as we were closing in to stop for gas and snacks again. I could feel my frustration and annoyance creeping in.
"Why do we have to move this year?" I asked, the frustration and annoyance dripping from every word that came out.
"Because UCLA made us an offer too good to refuse. Besides, the weather here is nicer than D.C." Mum was getting visibly exasperated with me. I know she feels like I don't understand why we are moving. I understood. I was just upset about it. My mom seems to think I am a child and I should have no say in anything that happens in my life. She has this plan for me, where I go to school, where I go to college when the time comes, what career I am going to follow, Everything. Everything has been planned out for me by her. She doesn't realize that I have my own plan, my own path I am following.
"Enough Athena, One more word out of you and we will have a serious problem. Just accept that we are moving. You are 17 and we should not have to explain this again." Dad stated sternly as we pulled into the gas station. He was always the stern one. He didn't really do emotions and didn't understand why I was upset. He thought I should just get over it.
"Yes sir," I mumbled under my breath as my parents got out of the car. Mum went to pump gas and dad went into the store. As they stepped out I pulled out my phone and opened the secure folder with all my intel on it, hoping to see a new spot to transfer to within my program. Just as I was about to flip through my phone started ringing, it was my boss.
"Agent Carson, how is the drive going?" He said sarcastically, slightly
"Honestly, I might kill my parents, sir. They are getting on my nerves and we still have 5 hours to go. What can I do for you though?" I sighed into the phone.
"Well, we have an opening in our Undercover Youth Bodyguard Program out of LA. How would you like to take the position and keep me as your boss?"
"That would be an honor, sir. Thank you! What is my assignment sir?" I was excited to hear all about it. He went on to explain that I would get the full assignment when I got to school however he sent me the necessary files for the school. "What should I tell my parents, sir?"
"Tell them you have been accepted into the LA School for Gifted Kids. it's not a lie, seeing as the school works with us so we can protect those kids that go there and it's where your charge is. Have a good evening."
"You too sir. Thank you!" I said as my parents got back in the car. My parents gave me a weird look, seeing as my mood had changed from frustrated to elated.
"Who was that?" Dad asked.
"The LA School for Gifted Kids. I have been accepted. My school sent over my transcripts and they called to say they would love to have me as a student." I enthused to my parents. As we got back on the road we talked about me living on campus. I explained that it was just like my old school. I'd live on campus and come visit when I could. It took a lot of discussions because my mom felt like she was not getting her way. My dad on the other hand realized that this was a good school and it was only fair to send me to the school of my choice after they forced me to move away from my previous school.
After that talk with my parents, I decided to nap because there was nothing else to do. It was late in the day when we finally arrived. My mom woke me up as we pulled into the school lot. Dad got out of the car first and went to check me in. Mum and I got out of the car and started taking my stuff out. "Ya know mum, I might like it here. I'm sorry I have been a pain since leaving. I was concerned about the school around here and the fact that I only had one year left and we had to move. It was just concerning because leaving such a prestigious school my senior year might have ruined my chances of college, but with this school being better than my last I think it will be ok."
"I'm sorry we didn't take that into consideration. We should have. You are almost 18 and are so close to school being over. We should have at least talked with you before deciding to move all the way across the country. We only really thought about how this could affect us. Your dad could have waited a year to accept this position." My mom explained to me. It felt good to have her realize that my schooling and my opinions matter too.
At that point, dad had come back with my room key and my schedule. We finished unpacking the car and Dad helped us take everything into my dorm. As we walked into my room, I realized it was a suite. I would have a roommate. Thankfully it seemed she wasn't home, so we made quick work of setting my stuff up in my room. Once everything was unpacked my parents took me out to dinner.
"You let us know whenever you want to come home and visit." My mom said as she and dad were dropping me off. Once the front door was closed and locked, I started unpacking equipment. The first thing I did was pull out my suitcase with a hidden compartment. Mum had offered to take it but I convinced her that it might be good to have one suitcase here just in case i need to pack to come home. In that compartment was my badge and my gun. I grabbed my safe from the box my dad carried in and set it up in my closet. Once that was done I pulled my gun out and carefully placed everything in the safe except my badge. Then I set up the hidden compartment for my drawer to put my badge.
Once all that was set up I decided to look into my assignment. His name is Prince Christopher Douglas Langston, the crown prince of Dolan. Dolan is a small island country off the coast of Norway. They speak English, the country seems to be nearly British. The crown prince is 17, almost 18. He enjoys gym, writing, and the arts but is doing well in all his classes. He is on the baseball team, seems to do well on the team.
The files made it seem like the prince is perfect. It seems hard to believe but until I know for sure, I can't really decide. With a further review of the files, it seems that I will be put into all his classes and I do not have a partner yet. They are looking for a male partner who can stay in his dorm with him. The files say I am to introduce myself to him tomorrow after school so I can get used to following him around. The only thing I found weird was there is no picture of the guy. The files say the school is still refusing to provide a picture. I guess I will have to snoop to find him. After reading all that I could feel a migraine coming on so I decided to lay down and take a nap.
