Chapter 9: Open up

A/N
The dialogues ("") you're gonna see right after this note are coming from only one person. The parts in italics are the parts she (Iona) doesn't hear quite well -which explains why most of it doesn't make any sense-, the parts normal are what she heard clearly (what she caught up on).
-----------------

"-She's strong- she doesn't-"

"-Yeah, I know- but what about- you mean-"

What's going on?

"-Fuck no I'm not leaving..."

"Yeah- her arms- she's not gonna- the- uhuh-"

"And what the fuck should be wrong with that?"

"Pops- no fucking way- it just shouldn't- you're not- they- I suppose-"

"-But she- no- yes- fuck no- Jesus Christ and the Holy Mary-"

Just silence finally...

"...No flying fuck given"

"I know about that- the nurse told me that-"

"Yeah her mom is on her way"

My eyes opened too quickly at what the deep hoarse voice said. I whimpered at the sudden bright light and closed them again.

"I-" I couldn't really talk, my throat was dry as hell, and I was self conscious about the smell emanating from my mouth.

"NURSE! WATER!" I heard the voice booming through wherever I was at, "Mint" I whispered and I heard a chuckle.

That chuckle...

"A-Andy?" I asked in a hushed voice, not letting much air escape my mouth, "Why do you want mint, fucktart?" My eyes opened a little slow and I saw his face a bit blurry at first but then my eyes adjusted. I looked at him disapprovingly and he smiled a closed lip smile, "Just trying to get you to crack a smile" he said brushing a few strands of my hair behind my ear.

I touched my head and felt it damp as hell, "What happened?" The nurse came with the water, "Oh, sweetie!" She gave me the water and I gulped down a lot in a swing, "Slowly hun, your body is going through a lot" she said and I nodded.

My mind is.

Andrew opened his book bag and took out a mint gum, giving it to me he said, "Iona, your mom-" "I heard you" I replied to him as I opened up the paper covering the sweet mint before he finished and he frowned, "How much did you hear while you were out?" He asked quickly and I tried to remember while chewing...

"Only bits and pieces" I said to which he smiled, "That was a serious conversation, young perv" he said and I smiled back, "No flying fuck given" I quoted him as I remembered what he said. His laugh boomed everywhere and I giggled, the nurse shook her head.

"I don't want to interrupt kids, but I have to talk to Iona privately" a sudden new voice joined us. One that creeped up my insides and watered my eyes. Fear spread all over me and I couldn't control it. I chewed faster and Andrew saw the change in my mood frowning, "Who are you?" He asked and the nurse smiled at me apologetically, "As protocol, if your mother didn't answer, we had to call -in your case- your social services tutor" I sat covering my body with the blanket and inside, I lowered my sleeves and held them in a fist.
