We stayed on the roof for about an hour just sitting quietly eating pirozhkis, the smog had cleared now making the starry sky more visible. I glanced at Yuri to find his eyes trained right in front of him, gazing at the city lights. His usually grumpy expression was gone and in its place was a vulnerable child. His demeanor had softened as if the silence had calmed him down.
I gazed up at the sky and realized that with all that was happening around him, Yuri may not have experienced much for a childhood. I tapped his shoulder gently before his head turned. I pointed to the sky before looking up, "The stars seem like a better view. Why don't you look up?" And so he did. His eyes widened as he did, the clouds had just parted revealing a full moon.
The stars twinkled as if they were a symphony working in harmony. With my peripheral vision I was able to make out a smile creeping onto his face.
"Not bad of a view brat," his smile formed into a smirk as he shot me a glance. I shook my head and muttered a small 'whatever' causing him to let out a little chuckle. We were both at peace and that's what mattered. Up here we were just a boy and a girl, simply enjoying our surroundings while back in there we were two different people. A world champion figure skater and a regular patient.
"This could be our secret spot," I suddenly blurted out. Yuri jolted up a bit but then his shoulders relaxed, I could imagine him protesting to the idea, saying that it was creepy or gross but instead he nodded without glancing at me, "Yeah, like a place where we forget everything else."
I smiled at him and let out a small giggle he glanced at me, his expression dull but his eyes twinkled as I responded, "Yeah sounds good. I like it." We stayed in silence, his outer jacket was snug around my shoulders protecting me from the cold breeze passing us every now and then. I tugged at them wrapping them closer around me, the scent was familiar and good relaxing my nerves.
I suddenly stood up, wobbling a bit causing Yuri to look at me startled as he let out a start. "Oi brat! What the fuck are you doing?" I ignored him and climbed on top of the bench before almost losing my balance. Yuri immediately stood up stretching his hands out to help me regain my balance but I quickly swatted it away. Gripping the backrest of the bench I turned myself around so that I was facing the view. "Hag you're going to seriously injure yourself!" He whined as I cupped my hands and brought them to my mouth.
I took a deep breathe before I let yelled out, "I'm going to get better so that I can watch Yuri Plisetsky win the Olympics!" The sound echoed for awhile before Yuri reacted, "Huh? H-hey you don't go b-blurting out bullshit l-like that! You almost scared me!" His cheeks were visibly red as he fumbled with his words. I shot him a toothy grin before he let out a glare in my direction. He suddenly surprised me by stomping on the bench and hopping on top of it as well.
He steadied me and let me sit on the backrest of the bench so that I wouldn't risk falling. He then cupped his hands together and let out a scream, "Yulia Nicole Petrov is a brat who likes to embarrass me but she'll fucking get better and watch me beat Katsudon and Victor!" I laughed at this before he did the unexpected. He began to laugh as well, a pure and genuine one. He sat down with me but our laughing didn't cease, in fact it intensified until out ribs ached. We then stood there with huge grins plastered on our faces.
Suddenly something vibrated and I could hear the faint meowing of a cat. Yuri took his phone out a little embarrassedly before unlocking it. "We hand to head back down," he said, "it's almost 2am and you need some rest." I let out a silent 'oh' as he hopped off the bench and bent down for me to piggy back him again. The walk down the stairs was quiet as if speaking could suddenly break whatever calm spell was upon us.
I looked back to the door that opened to the roof deck. Yuri had left it slightly ajar allowing a gust of wind to pass us causing him to shudder a bit. It hadn't occurred to me that maybe he wore two jackets for a reason. I unhooked my hands from his shoulders and proceeded to wrap them around him. My mind was slightly foggy as the sleeping pills effect began to sink in. Yuri tensed at this a bit while I made myself comfortable by burying my face in the area where his neck and shoulders connected.
