After racing down the stairs, I found both Lockwood and George sat in the kitchen, talking about tomorrow. I walked in flashing them both a cheeky smile, whilst helping myself to the array of breakfast spread out across the table. After exchanging good mornings the room went into its usual Thursday Morning silence and the only sounds that could be heard, were the occasional cough or scrapes of a knife across a plate.
"Lockwood?" He looked up suddenly at the sound of my voice and I had to stop myself from giggling, as his hair fell in front of his eyes. "What's up Luce?" I almost missed his reply and my mind went blank. It was only the feeling of the smooth paper in between my fingers, that brought me back to reality. "I won't be able to spend movie night with you guys ." I could feel George's eyes glaring into me, as Lockwood processed my words. "Why? We haven't properly spent time together in months." I pulled the paper out of my pocket and smoothed it out between them. They sat scanning it and I watched their eyes move back and forth. Eventually, they nodded their heads as a sign that they understood. I snatched up the invitation, as I felt my cheeks flush red with mortification, realising how disappointed they were.
Now that I had finally let them know, I hurriedly washed my plate before legging it upstairs. Once at the top, I stopped to catch my breath. The boys muffled voices could just be heard over my own heavy breathing. Guilt flushed through me, as I listened to them trying to decide on what to do now. A night off from work was rare to come by and we always spent them together. Maybe I could extend the invitation. Once my breathing was back to a regular rhythm I shouted back down to them. "You can come if you want, but you need dates." I smiled to myself, today is the day I get over Lockwood. The plan was to go with my childhood friend Phoenix. I darted through my door and skidded across the floor to my closet. Pulling out my ready made outfit, I wiggled into it. Then I sat for ten minutes staring at my short brunette hair. I hadn't even brushed it yet and it sat messily on the top of my head. Sighing I tried not to wince in pain, as the brush pulled through all the knots. It was such a relief when the brush finally went through my hair with out any obstructions. I grabbed a couple of small elastic bands and after a lot of tugging and fumbling I managed to weave half of my hair into a plait. Then I got makeup out and for the first time in my life, I put all of my makeup on. The eyeliner must of taken about twenty minutes to do, it was like watching a video on repeat. Right eye perfect and left one too long or too short. Once it was finally perfect, I found some black nail varnish and painted my nails. Before pulling on some brand new black knee high boots.
I made my way downstairs, to find Lockwood and George in tuxedos and to my dismay a very happy looking Holly Monroe, clinging to Lockwood's arm. At first they didn't see me but when they realised I was there, Lockwood's jaw dropped and even George was shocked. I couldn't help but giggle, as little miss perfect tugged on Lockwood's arm glaring at me. I gave her a smug smile and walked out into the hall to find Floe looking in the mirror. Without saying a word, I turned her towards me and got some makeup out of my purse. After applying a small amount of blush and highlight to her face, she practically glowed in the light. She smiled at me and I pulled her into the kitchen where the others sat waiting.
Lockwood looked at his watch anxiously
"Can we go now?" I shook my head, smiling to myself. Little did he know, my date was going to be there in a few minutes. When I was younger I'll admit, I did have feelings for Phoenix. I hope I still do . 'Knock, knock' My heart leapt out of my chest, at the sudden sound at the door. Running, I pushed Holly out of the way as she fumbled with the locks. Swinging it open I came face to face with my best friend. His dark hair was naturally flicked over one side and he stood with a large bouquet of roses, gleaming at me. I leapt into his arms and giggled as he span me around. The others came out of the house, giving me quizzical looks their eyes darting between me and the dashingly good looking guy with his arms around me. Suddenly I realised that they haven't met Phoenix before."Um.. Guys meet Phoenix." I stepped aside, letting Phoenix step forwards. Lockwood was in front of him in an instant.
"Hi I'm Lockwood" he stuck his hand out and Phoenix took it in a firm grasp but the second their hands were no longer touching, Lockwood moved away. Then George,Floe and Holly greeted him smiling and laughing trying to make the situation less awkward.
Lockwood impatiently glanced yet again at his watch
"Okay, now can we go?" I smiled at them grabbing Phoenix and pulled him towards the cab, that had been sat there patiently for the last ten minutes.I couldn't help but notice three things. The first was that Floe and George looked amazing together and neither of them could stop grinning. Two, Lockwood was completely ignoring Phoenix's existence, which was nothing like him. And thirdly when me and Phoenix touched, small butterflies filled my stomach.
