Stopping the whole problem, that sounded impossible. But at this moment anything sounded impossible. My heart beat slowed as I concentrated. Barriers of memories flew up surrounding my mind and I dragged the ghost out. A small smile crept onto my lips as all senses of feeling returned my fingers slowly wiggling in the air. Not wanting to risk being caught escaping I didn't stay to watch. Grasping the skull jar in my arms I cradled it against my chest running towards the stairs. Ignoring the calls of the impending darkness or the screams of the outraged ghost at my escape, I started to clamber down the deep stone steps.
As the adrenaline left my body I was reminded of all my injuries by the searing burn all over my skin. Each step caused more pain, the pain becoming more and more intense. Tears spilled from my eyes obscuring what was left of my vision. I stumbled blindly, using one hand to find direction. I could feel the cool breeze of the stairway exit blowing in my direction. Gasping I tried to quicken my pace because without looking I knew something was following me down.
I almost fell over when I reached the bottom, stepping as if to go down another step. I had made it to the ground floor. Wiping my eyes with my arm I looked to see the others huddled on the other side.
"LUCY?" Lockwood's cry met my ears and I tried to reply but my throat was too dry. The group came running towards me and I limped in their direction. After a few yards they stopped and I looked at them puzzled. I was close enough to see the fear etched across their faces and the hopeless gleam in their eyes. I turned around to see what they were scared of.Hollow black eyes stared right through me. Black charred skin covered half of its face and slowly dripped onto my shoes. The beast was too detailed to be a ghost and its hot breath blew across my face. I couldn't move away from it but I didn't have ghost lock. Black smoke swirled around the creature devouring half its body. It grinned with what could of once been a mouth. Arms slowly stretching out towards me I let the burnt hand clasp my shoulders. The room was silent as if time itself was frozen. I could feel the warmth of the beasts hands as if he was merely an old companion. The moment however was shattered as a scream pierced the silence. The floor beneath us crumpled and both the beast and I fell into the dark abyss.
