The cab slowly came to a stop. Vibrant purple lights shone up towards a mansion, which stood tall and proud surrounded by the dark unknown. Phoenix's hand found mine as we clambered out of the car and made our way up the marble steps, that had been outlined with iron filings. The bitter cold bit at our skin as we neared the grande oak doors.

On entering the mansion, we were met by an old, hunched man in a coal black suit. He ushered us in, slamming the doors shut behind us. I glanced around, not much had changed. The hallways walls were blood red, with a white carpet leading to the main set of doors at the end. We slowly wandered up the hall. Then, to my dismay a bright portrait caught my eye. My cousin and me were standing by our dads, smiling and happy in a sun filled meadow full of flowers. My father left when I was twelve, leaving our family heart broken. He left no trace or note, he just left. The worst part for me, is the last thing I had said to him, I had screamed in his face and claimed he didn't love me and that he was nothing to me.  I guess the first part was true. Phoenix grabbed my arm and hugged me, I let him do it. No words were spoken, but he knew my pain. He lost his mum too. He stepped away, smiled at me and linked his arm through mine. We didn't need our parents, we had each others backs and that was more than enough.

We walked through the door and were automatically greeted with a giant gust of music and laughter. Down below us, at the bottom of the stairs was a mass of people.  It took me a few minutes to realise who the herald was.
"John!" I smiled and leapt into his open arms as he spun me around.
" Lucy, god you have grown." I laughed and hugged him tight. He was my old best friends father and had filled the gap my father had left, as I grew up.  He taught me everything I know when it comes to Rapiers. It was on my Thirteenth birthday, he brought me my first one promising me he would teach me. And he did, if it wasn't for him I'd still be stuck at home.
"How are the girls?" I ask gleaming.
"Great, but Emily misses you."
"Tell her I said hi will you." Emily my best friend I missed her so much she was like a sister to me. She became an agent too but had a tragic incident two years ago, similar to mine. But I guess what they say is true. The mistakes you make count. Not for everything, and sometimes not forever. But they do matter and they shape you. Emily hasn't picked up a rapier ever since.
"Sure, now go have fun kiddo.
LUCY CARYLE AND PHOENIX AYERS, ANTHONY LOCKWOOD AND HOLLY MONROE. GEORGE CUBINS AND FLOE BONNES." As we stepped down the stairs all eyes were on us. I stumbled a few time but luckily Phoenix caught me each time. My face burned and I knew I looked like a ripe tomato and I couldn't help from laughing out of embarrassment as we stubbled and wobbled down the steps. We both let out small sighs of happiness and relief as we reached the bottom unharmed.
