Chapter 4
They pulled up to a diner just a few minutes later.
They walked together toward the small building.
"It's really hot," Olivia said more to herself, looking down at her jeans and sweater that she had on since she's been in the motel. She suddenly felt stupid for putting on such unfitting clothes in an environment like this. They had to be in Nevada still, just in a different city.
"Yeah, it is." Dante observed her outfit and said nothing. He didn't want to tell her about the staring strangers that they walked by as they entered the building.
A rush of coolness entered by the time they sat at a table booth. Dante sat across from her, avoiding her eyes.
"So, how long have you and Lucas been together?" He couldn't care less. He just wanted to make conversation to avoid awkward or even leftover tension from in the RV earlier.
"Me and Lucas?" Olivia blinked twice. "Uh, yeah. We've been together...for quite some time now. About eleven months."
He raised an eyebrow. "Must be pretty serious."
"Well," She shrugged and as soon as a waiter came to take their orders, she focused on the guy. She raised an eyebrow and a hint of bliss appeared in her light brown eyes. She looked please. "You're really cute," She covered her mouth and started blushing as if she hadn't intended to say that out loud.
Dante picked up a menu, not paying any mind. Though he was listening.
"Thanks," The waiter said. "Not my first time hearing something like that."
Olivia practically gushed. Dante rolled his eyes. What's with girls acting so...well, girly all the time? He always knew there was something about her that irked him. This could be one of those things.
"You live around here?" He suddenly asked her, his blue eyes rising. He had blonde hair and he looked pretty straight. Dante smirked to himself and glanced back down at the menu. "I could give you my number if you want."
"No, I'm not from around here." Olivia smiled and eyed Dante. "He and I are on a mission. We travel the world."
"You two an item?" The waiter asked.
Dante almost snorted out loud. As if.
"No," She replied with a soft smile. "But we're like Bonnie and Clyde since we're on an adventure together."
"Adventure, huh?" The waiter sounded irritated now.
Olivia nodded, "Yes, we're—"
"Actually," Dante spoke up without hesitating, giving the guy a smug smile. "I'm just driving her to California to go see her beloved boyfriend that she loves so much. They've been together for eleven months."
"Eleven months?" Waiter guy raised an eyebrow, his face almost pale.
"And counting." He smirked and placed the menu calmly back down on the table.
Olivia's jaw dropped, not believing he said that. How dare he interfere with her flirting!
Dante was getting suspicious. Is she lying about her supposed 'boyfriend' or is she just another whore?
Waiter guy cleared his throat and took out a notepad. "What will you be having?"
"Get us both the basic. Bacon, eggs, and those blueberry waffles." Dante confirmed really fast. "Orange juice and a coffee. With cream and a coffee straw, if you have it."
He nodded his head, took one last confused look at Olivia, and walked away while he still had his dignity.
Olivia looked ahead and sighed. Then, she turned to Dante. What was that for? Is he really this annoying? Seriously? She decided not to say anything to him the whole time. When they received their food, they ate in an uncomfortable silence. Well, for Olivia, that is.
