Chapter 25
Arizona
"I think we should get this for the get together." Scotty suggested to me in the store.
My purse was on my arm, and I studied the liquor he held in his hand with caution. Luke's girlfriend was coming to Salt Lake City for the weekend, and we all decided to have a get together at their condo for her arrival. I checked the price tag on the bottle and frowned. Dante only gave me but so much money.
Scotty instantly could see the message in my eyes. "No, sweetheart. I'm paying for it."
"Oh," I pressed my lips together, "Well if you want to. I don't drink."
"You don't drink?" He put the bottle in the grocery cart and we wandered to the next aisle.
I shrugged my shoulder, a small smile on my face.
"You are so totally innocent, baby." He put his arm around me and I flinched. He didn't realize my small action, and we carried on walking together as we browsed around for good food choices for company. "Just you wait until tonight. I'm going to try and get you tipsy."
"I've been tipsy before." I frowned when I thought about that club incident a while back. My first night in Salt Lake City. "It's just I have never gotten actually drunk. You know?"
"I bet you have never kissed a guy before. Have you?" His light blue eyes glimmered at his own assumption.
"I have..." I blushed while thinking about Chaseton and Dante. I have.
Once we stocked up on snacks and some drink choices, I went over to the deli section of the store to buy a chocolate cake. Once everything was purchased, we made our way outside to the parking lot. I opened the trunk of his car and started putting things in. He helped me after a second and got back to the front seat of his car. I got in on the passenger side, putting on my seat belt.
"Is it alright that I turn on the radio?" I ask once we got back on the road.
"Go ahead." He spoke softly while clutching his hands on the steering wheel, watching the vehicles ahead.
When 'I Wouldn't Mind' by He is We came on the radio, I gasped, a huge smile on my face.
Scotty watched me with curious eyes and finally, a small smile reached his face. "No way. This is that song you performed?"
"Mm hm," I nodded my head while singing along.
The lead singer was on her second verse as I joined in with her, relaxing my body and just letting the lyrics flow out of my mouth naturally. I smiled at how beautiful the song was to me, and when the song was over, I looked over and Scotty was looking at me.
"You should watch the road, kid." I joked, looking out the window.
"You sure you weren't a singer in your past life?"
"Past life?" My heart started beating fast. I never told him about my past life. Unless he heard Dante when he accidentally said my past name out loud at the bar. That had to be the reason.
Scotty chucked at me. "Yeah. You know. Reincarnation."
My body relaxed again, and I released a breath I didn't know I was holding. Oh. That past life.
"I'm not sure." I decided to play along, completely at ease with him. "Maybe."
He cleared his throat. "I know you and Dante uh...do that...traveling thing together. And you are not usually around a place but for so long, but I think you guys should stay. Salt Lake City is the ideal place to be. There all kinds of things you can do."
