Chapter 19
Arizona
The club was very loud, hot, and somewhat disturbing. Not because of the environment, but well, because...yeah, the environment. There were young adults and even older adults bumping and grinding, getting close on the dance floor.
Working up sweat and hot even breaths is what made the temperature rise, I'm assuming. And Melody picked a very clustered table for all of us. I was squeezed in between Dante and Melody, while Aaron and Luke were nodding their head to the music from across us. Luke was the quiet one, I could tell. He was fairly cute but he looked a bit shy. I wonder if Melody and Aaron ever make him feel uncomfortable, like a third wheel in their condo. I wondered if he could ever hear them having loud bedroom sex from his bedroom at night. The two of them seemed to like the idea of sex and expressing it with no shame evident in them. I also wonder if they ever drag Luke to places like this all the time.
Come to think of it, I started to wonder if Penelope ever dragged me to places like this. My cousin.
I tossed a look at Dante. He was wearing a dark long sleeve shirt, dark jeans, and white vans. He looked sexy. So sexy that it didn't surprise me that he kept getting attention from some women on the dance floor.
Their men would try to grab their attention again, to dance, but they were distracted on the exotic looking beauty sitting beside me at this little table. Melody looked pretty. Her blonde hair stayed the same, but she was wearing a tight black skirt and a pink draped silk shirt. She had black heels on. She walked in them so good that I started to really believe she used to model or still does.
When Blurred Lines from Robin Thicke started to play in the club, women started screaming and cheering. Melody glanced at the dance floor. "Man! I really love this song!"
"So go dance?" It came out as a question when I didn't mean for it to.
Melody's blazing blue eyes focused on me. "I can't. I always get a drink or two before we dance. It's my ritual and I can't mess it up now." She chewed on her tempting red lips, her perfect eyebrows furrowing. "Where in the hell is the—"
"Good evening. Any drink requests over here?" A random woman with a pen and notepad asked.
"Sex On The Beach, baby!" Melody exclaimed. "I need it. It's been too damn long."
Aaron chuckled, "Just get me a Vodka sour."
Luke chimed in. "A Jack and Coke, please."
Dante glanced at me. I watched him helplessly. The woman waited, staring at me. Melody, Luke, and Aaron waited patiently with generous smiles on their faces. I recognized smiles like that. Somewhere in the depths of my memory I managed to dig out those expressions. They came from my family. Based off my diary I'm guessing it was from whenever I ran into a financial crisis, and I couldn't make ends meet. And I hate feeling like a damn charity. My head was pounding and I started to sweat a little, I think. I couldn't tell with all that's going around in this club. The music was still too loud and it was still burning in here like the devil's cave.
As if it were even possible because we were already squeezed in together, Dante scooted closer to me. I tried not to let the heavenly scent of his masculine cologne affect me. He leaned in and his lips that were on mine hours ago back in Red Rock brushed my earlobe. I think it was an accident. I tense up.
He murmured, "Get a Strawberry Margarita. It's simple."
"Strawberry Margarita." I blurt out, blushing. Everyone could tell I was new to this. I wanted to just sink into the floor and disappear.
